Can a Telecaster be used for metal? I used one through my Quad Cortex to find out

There’s always the Squier Paranormal Custom Nashville Strat. But that’s more of a Nashville Tele in a Strat shape.

Anyway, I like how Teles can sound for heavy stuff. I have a Squier CV Baritone Tele that I put Dimarzio Area T pickups in for a noiseless Tele sound. It’s tuned to A Standard and I like piling gain on with it.

You can always roll off the tone knob a little of it’s too bright. The less compressed nature of single coils can work pretty well for a change of pace with high gain.

Calling this a Telecaster

Is like calling this a Porsche

You say you are a believer. I say you need to have stronger faith. Too many questions.

I have faith that different guitars sound different. I find in all matters of faith, keeping my faith very broad and general helps me side step lots of pointless arguments.

We differ on that.

In matters of faith, I find it essential to ask questions and test things for myself. Often the things we hold as true or established do not hold water when subjected to real world testing.

In that regard, I ask questions to ascertain what other people think about something that I may not be able to test, or where I seek more information from those with more experience.

It is an exchange of ideas, not an argument and that is a good way to look at things.

This discussion about Telecasters is a case in point. I have limited experience, but am curious to know more from those that have played them or own them.

There’s no confrontation here, just healthy and constructive discussion. For the most part.

Meh, taking you at your word on this, there is a healthy dose of ignorance here that doesn't take thaaaaaaaat much "what makes a tele sound like a tele?" google searching to learn a bit about. The metal base plate of the bridge pickup, and the wire/cover/bobin size of the neck pickup being the biggest contributors. As for the other stuff...discussing it on a gear forum is of little use. Play guitars, see what you think.

So I took your advice at face value and did a search for “what makes a Tele sound like a Tele”.

This threw up a link to the Telecaster Forums, which seemed like a reliable place to get information, so I clicked and went in.

Here is an example of what people on the Telecaster forum say.

One guy says it’s the pickup. Another says it’s the baseplate. You say it’s something else altogether.

Do you see the problem? What do you recommend, that I conduct a statistically weighted analysis to find out what most users think on the Internet and then go with that answer?

Or should just go with your opinion?

I’m sorry you find the thread annoying, but there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Why am I asking questions on this particular forum? It seems like a good place, folks seem knowledgable, geared discussions are interesting, music being shared is cool,

I don’t have access to a lot of instruments to test my theories, and so I ask questions. Some guys on here have huge collections, I hope to get valuable insights.

Not a telecaster, but I brought my silver sky to practice tonight (was running my 5153)

Plenty fucking brutal for metal to say the least

And telecasters are much more aggressive than strats/strat copies imo

Someone on Rig-Talk pointed me towards exactly what I was looking for:

The guitarist is using a Tokai Tele. Really nice, clean sound with the single coils. Not sure if he's using the bridge or neck pickup though.

Did some riffing on the neck pickup of my Tele into my QC. Assuming you can call it that because it's a humbucker, of course.
