Seems they've also put out a GT-1000/Core update that also removes the polyphonic tuner so sounds a lot like some legal reason.

It's likely more about how the tuner is presented visually. You can't patent the algorithms but you might be able to patent how it's presented.

So rather than spending the effort to reworking it to something that gets around that, Boss just removed the entire feature.

• Fixed to disable OUTPUT SELECT when AMP is disabled.
• Fixed a bug where ASSIGN did not work when CONTROL MODE was set to BANK/NUM.
• When ASSIGN's INT PDL TRIGGER is MEM CHANGE, the trigger did not work.
• Other minor bugs have been fixed.

I spotted this at TOP. This is a new low for Boss by actually removing existing functionality!

Was the polyphonic tuner just crap, or did Boss maybe get hit by some cease&desist from TC Electronic who might have a patent for that?

I’d imagine they’ll release it in a separate dongle with a proprietary connection that costs $400.
