Boss GT-1000 (and possibly other things Boss...)

Made a patch last night with the JC-120, X-Comp, Dual Chorus, and Plate Reverb. The X-Comp is great for adding some sustain, while also limiting the volume some. The Dual Chorus is a nice sound, though I think I need to adjust the mix/levels some. The Plate Reverb is just to add some dimension to the sound and the mix isn't that high. I also have an SDE-3000 Delay after the amp, as well as Vibrato, Tremelo, and Rotary Speaker effects prior to the amp that I can turn on.

The goal is to go for something in the ballpark of Dream Warriors and One. I tried the Natural, Deluxe, Twin, Diamond, Tweed, Match, etc. amps and found the JC-120 and Natural the best/closest, in that order.

My main two gain patches are based on the Boutique (which is awesome) and Supreme.
 
Hi! New user here. You guys having problems with IR loading recently or do I really have to accept that the IRs, once loaded to the GT1k, sound massively different from when I use them in my DAW? I have the Core by the way, but I don't think that would affect the IRs.
 
Btw some good news about GT-1000/core IR profiles: Highly probably they are at least 3354 samples per profile.

Source: the profiles included into their app contain 3354 samples, each sample is 4 bytes (=32 bit). I doubt that devs will put oversized profiles as presets and then will send them into the device to re-convert. Because app actually, from what i've seen, doesn't do reconversion, it just delivering the data into the device (choose memory slot, name etc) and the device will process it. So when you write a code w/ presets inside you will do it in most efficient way possible.

Good for an almost 5yo device!

I've seen some folks thinking over the web that "probably boss use internally 2048" haha, it's always better to check :ROFLMAO:

Another interresting news: IR-200 profile loader have identical code as GT1000 IR Loader, but just have no examples. So probably they recycle almost same firmware. From the specs devices have identical ADC/DAC params. I will test, but i wish GT1000 would support 500ms IRs like IR-200 !

Did you really A/B them? Like in reamping mode?

Yes I did, but I used the two outputs of the Core. I used a divider to pan the output left and right with the right output having the IR block with my IR of choice and left output with IR off. The right output with the IR sounded like the IR was distorted or that a dry signal of my preamp was mixed in with the IR.

When I did some tests, I somehow managed to make things sound pretty much identical (there might've been some smaller differences, though, perhaps related to SR conversion or maybe even the IR getting truncated, no idea...). But don't ask me what exactly I did because the entire cab business (including the internal ones) is quite awkward, so I don't remember anymore.
Finally, because IR loading is such a PITA and because they're also considerably lower in perceived volume than the internal cabs, I decided to leave things alone. I'm not using the internal amps on my main board anyway, so I don't need to use any IRs inside the GT, either - and once I use the GT on its own, I simply stick with the internal cabs, which I actually find to work quite well.

I believe that the IR (mis)conversion issue was addressed in a recent update of firmware, drivers & supporting software for GT1K (including CORE).

Update: I think I'm mistakenly associating a GX-100 issue with the GT1K - I was looking at both units for a long while and they seem to have merged in my little brain

Yeah, IR loading takes so much time, I can't believe Boss tech is still like this. I can get the output to sound decent though with a low pass at 5k and a massive cut at 8k.

I'm thinking the GT Core somehow has problems with IR loading or is picky with third-party IRs as I some IRs I have also uploaded, though not sounding correct either, dont' sound as bad as the other ones I use.

That's disappointing but good to know that you're current.
I don't have my CORE handy but I recall comparing the output using an onboard 3rd Party IR (York Audio) and the cab off output through an external IR loader with the same IR - no noticeable difference to these tin ears.
I see your comment that you're getting variable levels of misbehaviour with different IRs.
Maybe a factory reset (and reloading the 3rd Party IRs) is worth a try?

I haven't tried uploading my YA IRs to it yet; I'll try them out first to see if I experience the same issue. I vaguely remember testing the GGD Cali IRs and not hearing any noticeable difference, but that was long before the recent updates to the Core and Boss Tone Studio. If reuploading doesn’t work, I may have to resort to backing up my presets and resetting the Core completely.

Yes, after the recent update to Boss Tone Studio, I actually thought that the update that included the IR loader caused my IR problem.

Hmm, I haven't updated BTS from 4.0.0 to 4.1.0, so my non-negative experience with internal 3rd Party IRs on the CORE vs externally hosted IRs must have been while using the separate IR loader software for the CORE.

Do you still have access to the old IR loader software?

BTS/Android sucks so much it's tough to believe, really. Almost endless tries until it finally connected.
Defenitely an issue with the app as I can connect via TouchOSC all the time.

Really doesn't work on the phone at all anymore, just with the tablet. What a major suckage.
 
Ok, seems I updated the BTS version on the phone. It's 4.1.0 and doesn't work, whereas 4.0.0 on the tablet still does. What-the-actual-fuck?
