BluGuitar Amp X

Yes and I really don’t want a “we will add that in a future update “ from Thomas

Line 6 ok they do updates

Fractal he will add features by the end of the week

Even NDSP a couple of times a year

Blug .. ummmm

He seems like a good dude and this seems like a passion project for him, so I would be reasonably confident he doesn’t abandon it. (Unless the money runs out lol)

I would be leery about the post purchase DLC angle tho. He said in one of those video blogs that the stuff that isn’t in the box at launch would be DLC, to pay for continued dev. I don’t know if that was just amps, or also effects.

That said, like most things, I think regardless of the initial price, the paid angle only tends to matter depending on how much it initially knocks your socks off. If you think the AmpX is killer right out of the box and you love it, you're probably not going to do a cost to value analysis on a micro purchase. But if you’re chasing interest for something about the unit in general, it will probably sour quick.

Also something he said in a recent Stream the hardware features are locked in now begins the work on the Software side like midi channel switching , blue prints , if that is true that kind of a big WTF after 6 or 8 years or whatever it’s been
That's not really surprising. They probably have clear plans on what order to implement things getting the main engine right is priority #1.

Blug has been using the Amp X as his gigging rig for I think a year now so it probably already does enough for him. Implementing e.g MIDI support on top is not that tough if the main switching functionality works as expected - it's just an alternate way to trigger that.

The "Blugprints" are afaik just configuration files for the underlying engine, so they have had to develop those for the models anyway. What might not exist is a way to manage them in any sensible manner as it's probably something like "send them over via USB stick" at this point. Then they might want to think about e.g digital rights management or things like that so people don't just pirate them.

I really hope they can push it out as largely feature complete at launch, even if it means the number of amps, cabs and fx is more limited.

I remember running my FM9 through the power section of the Amp1 into a real cab years ago. It was cool, but not any better than just playing the FM9 through some nice studio monitors at volume.

However, the Amp1 plugged directly into the cab like a normal amp (go figure) actually felt different in comparison.
I know people say “oh just run your modeller into a power amp and your cab, it’s no different”, but there’s still that analog je ne sais quois that I didn’t get with the FM9.
Maybe a swanky tube power amp would be different. Shrug

I believe in Thomas, but the price of this thing (and the paid extras) are just blech.
