BluGuitar Amp X

Kinda sucks especially given it's supposedly going for 2,000 EUR / USD; it's becoming a harder pill to swallow with each new piece of gear that's come out in the meantime.

Product is definitely cool but getting more *meh* vibes.
Thomas is in it for himself and that’s not a bad thing but like he said it’s like his own rig he’s creating I don’t know how many people really want his rig but imagine if digital igloo said I’m just gonna make this helix stadium exactly like my personal rigand then if you want any extra stuff, you gotta pay extra down the road people would be like flying off the handle criticizing line 6 if that happened

I mean it is basically trying to be his own personal rig so I think he knows that a very few select people will actually buy itwhich he’s probably OK with even if he doesn’t break even financially
Going from what we know, there will be amp models in there, especially in the future, that he doesn't base his core tone on. Arguably that's already true for the less flexible units he sells.

I doubt Blug spent years in development only to make a unit for himself and a few other guys. What would be the point? If anything, analog flexibility is a core selling point.
if he sells 100 or 200. He’ll be happy.
100-200 for the entire lifetime of the amp x? That seems bad imo. The market already knows the current products he sells, and this is supposed to be the peak for him.

It's not like amp x will sell like packs of maltesers, the guitar market being quite limited. But I would be very surprised if 100-200 sales means he's satisfied.

(Of course some times companies make products they know won't generate more than cash than they loose. But I don't know -- let's say -- why that would be the case here).

Yeah 200 units likely wouldn’t even be $200k in profit to spread around to every employee.

Ultimately Blug is really just trying to create his own highly personalized rig, hence his obsession with his specific amps and effects. Everything that falls outside of his use-case or preferred tones is an afterthought. I kind of admire his approach and focus, but I also think that explains some of his design choices and why this will ultimately land on the market a few years too late to be impactful.

I remain passively interested in the project because you want to see genuine and passionate guys like him succeed, but I think he probably missed the boat on this.

Yeah, absolutely all of this.
Same goes for, say, the choice of FX. Compared to other devices, they're extremely underwhelming, at least given the current state of information. They might be exactly what he needs for his playing, but many (perhaps almost all) people these days just expect more from such a unit.
Having said that, I really have no idea about the target group for this thing. Yes, there's quite some people who seem to like Amp 1, but that's possibly as well because it's a very simple affair, 100% WYSIWYG and dead easy to use. Things not true for Amp X anymore. And the kind of folks expecting a plethora of amp models and FX (as is common in nowadays modelers) won't be satisfied, either.
I defenitely wish him at least so much success that this doesn't come out as a financial desaster, though.

At least for amp models, the premise of the ampx is that it'll (at least with time) offer a whole bunch of stuff, and do so while maintaining the feel of these amps. Otherwise, why develop the unit at all? The iridiums, mercuries and such are already very flexible.

I'd expect the ampx to go several steps above these. Not like fractal offering 72829 sims, but much more than they've shown. Will it be enough for people after a big wealth of amp models? I don't know.

Also the fact that it includes a power amp that can hang against full tube amps is cool for me. For those very comfortable with FRFR, it matters less. But every time I've played through FRFR I've soon run back to my guitar cab, even considering the limited flexibility.

I’m fairly unfamiliar with the Blu stuff in general, but @GuitarJon posted a recap/best of Guitar Summit vid on his channel where Blug owned up to all the delays in releasing the thing semi-apologetically. I didn’t take the lack of a full on apology as a negative and wish more companies were as transparent as that. It was more or less “It took 7 revisions because I’m a bit neurotic about this stuff and if I don’t think it’s ready, it’s not getting released”

“If you really want to play that Dumble, you’ll have to pay for it”

Yeah, how about the initial $1,999 :ROFLMAO:

Geez. Dude said he is going to preload some amps on it and put audio glitches in it unless you buy.
