BluGuitar Amp X

The pay to play model works for Tonex because they sell cheap throwaway pedals as the carrier device. It works for Neural because they make videos of dudes playing their shit in furry purple sandals by the pool plugins have stand alone value and utility.

I can’t imagine dropping 2k to then essentially be forced to buy all of the other amps. I admire the dudes passion and enthusiasm, but he’s losing the plot on this one.

Maybe if they could get the thing out the door this century they wouldn’t be burning so much capital as to necessitate a business model that’s going to dead in the water right out of the gate.

Most guitarists are not going to be willing to roll the dice on a $2k device with paywalls. Just ask Kemper.
Fan boys will but yea average guys won’t bother and be turned off by having to pay for stuff after dropping 2k$+ it’s a bummer.

Tiny bit of news from BluGuitar's recently Q&A stream (not related to Amp X).

"When the Amp X launches you will see some amp models from my amp collection besides the Amp 1 Mercury and Iridium."

No other context.

I hope that means it comes with some of Blug's vintage amps.

That would help the unit be a little bit more well-received; $2K for a box that only gets you the stuff in the Mercury + Iridium (which both together are less than $2K) is a hard pill to swallow any other way.

Well you do get the effects too. There will be some I have not seen emulated anywhere else like the H&K Replex, and some real analog effects too. So you get a full pedalboard of analog and digital fx, plus two 4 channel amps (at least), plus a great poweramp you can plug direct into a guitar cab.

But I do agree, having additional amp models will help with the value proposition.

That's also a bit unclear - which and how many effects are included at purchase.

You can do this on the Amp 1 units using the internal power soak accessible via MIDI. The Amp X instead just gives you a knob for it which you can use whenever in a more intuitive way.

Personally I rarely use the powersoak. Not because it doesn't sound good but because I feel the Amp 1 tones don't need to be cranked to sound great.
