Biggest piece of quartersawn maple you’ll ever see

Nah, this guy was not interested in fancy trucks. A full-sized truck would have been more appropriate for this trip for sure. Was probably a bit over payload capacity of mine.
I once had to go get 20 sheets of 12' drywall, since the builder I worked for didn't know how to estimate! But I'll never forget how nice my F250 rode with all that weight! It's a strong truck, but damn does it ride hard empty.

Yeah, the weight isn’t as bad as it looks - well, per slab. We had originally intended to go butcher block which would’ve been same weight.

By the time I get these flat they’ll probably be closer to 1.75” thick.
Man, bandsaw that puppy in half, put a border around the countertop, then build yourself a few guitars!!

I'm kidding of course, but that was my first thought. ;)

I watch Antiques Roadshow just to look at furniture that I would like to turn into guitars,
Paul Smith built Howard Leese's guitar out of his mother's dresser, I believe it was. Even has the hole (filled) where the knob screw hole used to be.

Find me a 46” bandsaw and will consider :)
Eh, tell the customer you have to split it in half so the wood will remain stable, then you only need a 24". :ROFLMAO: Sacrilege, I know. :sofa

I had to use my boss's bandsaw for something small (I can't remember what it was), and I don't know if his saw was just a POS, but I had a hard time getting it to cut straight. I checked the tension, had the guides just above the work piece, but it did not want to cooperate.

We once visited the Weyerheser plant where they make OSB panels, and during the tour, we passed by the shop where they sharpen all the blades and such, and there was a bandsaw blade that had to be every bit of 24' long hanging up. I wanna say it was 3" wide.

I got a big router sled/table setup put together finally (yes, on my front porch - getting these slabs through the snow to my workshop seemed...unreasonable. And my workshop is only 12x12 and a pretty terrible place to do high-dust-creation work like this unless I can keep the doors open the whole time.

Was able to run a cut off of one of the cherry boards as a test piece today and was pleasantly surprised by how well this setup works! Tomorrow will be a long, loud, and messy day for sure (and yes, that's a monster in the window -- he's lived there since our fist halloween in this house when kids were very little and we can't bring ourselves to take him down)

I told them it was payback for their running snowblowers at 6:30 all winter while I quietly shoveled away.

The two 13” wide cherry boards were pretty straight forward having both sides flattened within an hour. The 27” wide maple is…taking a little more time :). The 42” wide board is tomorrow’s problem.
