Benson Babylon - 880W all tube amp!

Coming up next:
"Hey guys, I am new to the forum. Anyway you have an idea for a attenuator so I can play my 880w amp in my rented flat?"

The heat produced would definetly save a lot of money on heating your place. Come gather round the ol' ampfire and listen to my story.

I think it's cool. Useless, bad sounding, but cool.

its not something anybody needs. like ever.

just thinking about paying for 14 matched kt88s gives me hives. and 4 412s. basically as useful as tits on a fish.

all that said- its fun somebody did it. but how in earth you find audio transformers, i dunno. i suspect itll see maybe a half hours functional use in its lifetime though.

my grandfather used to build (and repair) transformers at home.
The sound and the smell of the manual winding machine he used, will be forever impressed in my memories. I've spent countless hours turning the crank and watching the numbers add up.

just saying that custom made transformares can be made in house or outsourced.

oh i know it- but that art is preetty rare nowadays, and i think good sounding audio transformer winders are even more rare! not at all to say its impossible.. but 880w good sounding audio transformers arent off the shelfers under any normal human circumstance

Watch the video. The custom transformers was one of the first things they talked about.

oh i heard it when i watched the vid the first time! im less concerned ultimately that they exist than kinda laughing at him adding up the numbers and being like.. oh.. thats a lot. well YEAH... theres like 400# of laminated nickel steel and 8 miles of copper windings

It's all cool and fun, although I'd doubt you'd sell but a small handful. The price would be way too high.
But why not make a 100-200 watt amp for guitar/bass?

i think he makes some huge 700 watt four knob jobby for that already! super basic but crazy loud.

Oh ok. I see it's a hybrid design. An all-tube version around 200-300w would be cool too, and still plenty loud.

I love it!

Regarding complaints about how it sounded in the video, I'm sure it would have sounded different in Pete Thorn or a number of other player's hands.

Regarding the thump in the chest, that's nontrivial.

If it's available for four figures I'm putting it on the wish list. It looks like a work of art.
