Pawn shop has this. He wants 2500 which is nuts. But I wonder if he'd trade straight across for a Stealth 50

Yeah questionable price I see some pretty good BL50 deals

Which kind of makes me question/regret that I broke my usual rule and bought new

But fuck it lol, it was a birthday present from o myself

And despite some back and forth with it at home now that it’s at the practice space with the redback in the Madison miced up shit is LOCKED IN

I keep bringing my Vela which one might not assume to be a natural pairing but it’s just sounded so glorious the last two weeks. I’m almost scared to being another guitar and fuck up the magic I’ve been experiencing

I have had the best luck putting some cash on the counter. I walked into a pawn shop with a friend of mine and found a nice high end guitar hanging in there and it was in like new condition. It was prices at what it probably would sell for at that time on the used market but I didn't want to pay anywhere near that for it. I tried to get the guy to move on the price and he was pretty firm. I think he just got the guitar in.

Fast forward a year. I walked into that same pawn shop with the same friend and this time my wife was with us. That guitar was still hanging there. I knew that I should be able to negotiate a price that I was willing to pay now because he had his money tied up in it for a year and it was still hanging there. I had a price in my mind and was not going any higher. We made it to being $50 apart. I told him that I didn't have that much cash on me but if he let me put it on my credit card I would pay the extra $50. He said it had to be cash at that price. I walked out.

I got cash out of the bank that week and went back the following weekend. I knew where the case was so I went and got it and I put it on the counter and pulled the guitar off the rack and put it in the case. The guy was on the phone while I was doing this. When he got off the phone he looked at me and said ah, you are here to buy the guitar. I told him I am here to continue the negotiations. He said you came back so I know you are here to buy it. He restated his price and I restated mine. We were still $50 apart. I told him I am at the amount I am willing to pay and won't go any higher.

He got another phone call and while he was on the phone I pulled the cash out and laid it on the counter next to the guitar. When he got off the phone I told him I am picking one of them up and walking out the door with it and he gets to choose which one it is. He told me to count the cash. I said you count it, I know exactly how much is there and it is the exact amount I told you I would pay for the guitar. He picked the cash up and started counting it and when he got about 3/4 of the way through counting he said what am I going to do, say no? He then said pick up your guitar and head out. I still have that guitar.

That’s an awesome story and it’s unfortunate you had to go through all that. I haven’t stepped foot in a pawnshop in a long time, but I did have a score once in one. I had a drummer friend who asked me to come with him to a pawn shop to look at a guitar and let him know if it was good enough to buy. When I got there, the guitar was covered in grime and nastiness, but under the grime was a mint Ibanez S470 cherry red finish with a Lo Pro Edge on it. They had it marked for $800, but you could tell they thought it was garbage based on how it was displayed and treated.

I wound up scoring the guitar with the molded case for $350. My drummer friend never got to play it :ROFLMAO:

I used to go to the pawn shops with this friend that was with me for that trip. We would hunt out different shops and see what they had. Most of the time you find junk. Once in a while you find something good. Where I live, the price marked on it means nothing. Some people don't know that and will just buy it at whatever price is on it. I learned real fast that the first question you need to ask is what can they do on the price. They will give you a discount. Once you get that first one, come back with something lower, maybe a little too aggressive even. People seem to have watched pawn stars too much and think that ridiculous offers is how you negotiate. I have to say that it does seem to work. Just have cash in hand and they will be much more willing to take less. This method of negotiating was considered an insult when I learned the ropes.

When I bought that guitar, the guy didn't want to run it through their system. He just "took it out of inventory." That told me that he didn't make anything on the deal. He may have sold it to me for exactly what he paid for it and that is why he kept trying to get that last $50. At least he would have made something. After having me walk out a week before and then showing up with cash and putting it in front of him, he knew he could either get his money back out of it or let it hand on the rack for another year or two before selling it for probably around the price I gave him or he may have had some luck and made hundreds more. It was going to take some time for sure and they can't make money with money that is tied up in product. I took a business card that had the guy's name on it so if I ever ran into any issues down the road with anyone thinking it was stolen, I could tell them where and who I bought it from.

They should've never included Recto in the name they sound nothing like a recto LOL. I think thats the main reason the BL gets any bad press

That said its an awesome amp, with a completely different sound
i've never met one or even seen a demo! i'll have to peek at it.. it just LOOKS like one. i got the impression it wasn't one of the more popular models- but then again, mesa seems to have a ton of those i've really liked like the electradynes and the stilletos!

You might like the badlander then, its more Marshall flavored like the amps you mentioned!

It's the best of that line. The stiletto, royal Atlantic, etc, all lead up to the Badlander. It's an awesome amp. I used it extensively on my last album and think the world of it. It's not a Mark or a recto, it's It's own thing and really sounds great in a mix with minimal tweaking.

whoooaaa... WHAT is goin on with usable direct out IRs that sounds like.... an amp
:ROFLMAO:

man, i think my 1981 expectations are a little outdated. :D

They are crunch machine. Cleans are great too! Super quiet (not noisy) amps. They take boosts great if that's your thing as well. Recto in name only for sure. I knew that from the jump when I got mine here a few years back and getting the MultiWatt here last week or so; it was reconfirmed to ridiculous levels. Just not the same style of guitar tones really at all. It is a great amp.
