Thanks for the thread, and the looking out. You are some good people! :beer

Back in Full Power Mode with the Internet. :pickleExcited for practice with the guys
tonight. It's edifying when you survive the kind of shitstorms Life can throw
our way. I feel like Captain Dan high up on the Mast.

:rofl

Excited to catch up with you all when I have more time to ponder The Great
Gear Questions of Life. :chef :beer
Good seeing you back! Who has a winter storm in April :cuss:roflGlad to see you made it out!

Welcome back to civilization Dave!
Come move down to GA or FL. Funk that cold weather. :cop

Haha! There's truly no safe place anymore, FA. The Gods are a bit riled up and are exacting human
flesh as penance all over the world. :knit:cuss:satan

I intentionally chose to live here due to the seeming low population density and lack of severe
environmental threats. Nothing bad happens here. Then we get the worst storm to hit here in over
100 years---where it rained and hovered at 31F-33F for 4 days. What kind of world does that??:idk

4 Day Ice Hurricane. WTF? :hmm

It was literally like living on an Alien Planet for those 4 days. Just didn't stop raining... and freezing.
One degree colder and no problem. Snow. One degree warmer and no freezing, just rain. It was
beyond bizarre.

Took the ENTIRE electrical grid down. Over a million acres of Forest damaged. It'll take the rest of
this year to clean up all the debris and downed trees. That's on top of all the normal work we all
still have to do as part of our making a living.

Glad to be picking up sticks, and chainsawing, though. :beer

We had an Ice storm as well In Quebec , Power was out for a Long Time

The worst ice storm in Canada was the 1998 Ice Storm, a major disaster that struck parts of Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick between January 4 and 10, 1998. This event caused widespread damage, including massive power outages and significant damage to infrastructure and the environment, resulting in several deaths and numerous injuries

Good grief! Glad you're ok though. I don't blame you wanting peace and quiet out in the woods though. Probably where I'll end up too, but with a short drive to the beach.:grin

Wow!! I hope the one we had in 93 was the only one I'll ever live through.

I was sheathing a roof, and started hearing this "tinkle tinkle" on the plywood, and since it was right around 32 degrees, I knew what was coming, so I yelled to the guys, "PACK IT UP. AND FAST!!"

We left w/i 10 minutes, and by the time I got 5 miles, there was a slightly banked, gentle bend, and I slowed to a stop because a pickup towing a trailer had jackknifed, and my truck slid perpendicular to the road, until the 2 passenger tires met the grass next to the shoulder!

Freakest thing I ever encountered while driving (er, stopped.) So I kept those 2 wheels in the grass and drove home at about 10 mph. Had to cross 1 short bridge, and there was an oncoming car, but we both stayed in our lanes. We were literally driving on black ice.

Had to drive on the highway for about 2 miles, and saw a tractor-trailer in the median, and probably 3 other disabled vehicles.

Stranded at home for the next week (or maybe it was 2.)

Went for a walk around the neighborhood one night, and the weirdest thing was how eerily QUIET it was. Until you heard this gradual cracking of a tree branch, then CRAAASSSSHHHH BAM! I had to keep a lookout (many branches stretched out over the road), since that was 1 of about 3 branches that broke off during my walk and crashed to the ground. Weirdest weather event I ever experienced!

And yeah, the trees all around our area looked like a war zone for years afterwards. Parts just all randomly broke TF off!

Ain't no Mother Nature gonna stop the Goatlord! Sorry to hear you had to fight through this, but glad you came out OK!! Best wishes on the recovery efforts over the next few months, I am sure that is going to be some heavy lifting (for you and your clients)!!!

For me it was a 1991 ice storm in western NY. 4 trees ON the house, no power for 11 days. It taught me to be prepared and all multiday power outages since then have been a walk in the park by comparison.

As long as you have booze, food, water, a heat source, and you can tune a guitar without electricity, you can survive. If one of those is missing, stress goes up fast!

What about sex? :sofa

11 days is too long... :rofl

(I can do without the booze, myself.)

I can do that just fine without electricity. In fact, with no internet or power, if you are holed up with a partner, there will probably be more than normal!

As for booze vs bud, I should have said "pharmaceuticals and intoxicants" to cover both recreational and medical needs. If you need a prescription filled, waiting a week or more for the pharmacy to reopen might be bad.

The main point is a little thinking ahead and preparation can make a huge difference between an extended power outage being a very stressful ordeal or a relaxing and enjoyable break from our normally connected lifestyles.
