Another punishing Fractal experience - VP4 content

Fractal units have a definite learning curve

Never good when you are frustrated using a product that you had high hopes for.
I've had both of my VP4s since they were released last year and if anything, I've found these to be very intuitive with how you go through the menus when you are playing live and need to make a quick change. I did read the manual and that made a lot of sense.

Hope you are able to figure this out. I have one of mine running in 4CM with my X88-IR and the VP4 switches everything via midi. It is bloody glorious live!

Quick update. Had a run through and tweaked everything and it sounds a lot better and more consistent.

The mix level is fine with my JCM 800 so the low delay mix is probably something to do with the JVM. Still baffled by the volume loss using the delay though, especially when bypassed.

Couple of observations -

It sounds amazing, no question about it, best effects in the business.

It needs a couple more footswitches. I need to scroll through a few presets as I’m using scenes. This means I’ve got that set to press and hold, which also means scenes are activated on footswitch release, which is annoying.

It’s still hard to use, I had to tweak using VP4 edit. Sorting effects on unit is fine, channels and scenes are a pain.

On just one scene on one preset, I don’t have spillover. No idea why that is.

Please make it so we can see the what scenes are available on screen.

Speaking from FRESH experience; the JVM loops are weird. Glad to hear your experience with the JCM was better!

Yup. I had such a faff with the switchable loop I run everything into the front of the JVM now.

I had no issues with it when I had one . I only ran line level in it though with fx that had input and output level control and clipping indicator.
I don't mean to bag on the JVM. It's just fresh on the mind atm:D I am the type that once I get an impression on something; it is VERY hard to change my mind on it. I am sure the JVM loop is great once you "figure it out" but I have crossed that line with it at this point where Imma keep using the FAS stuff instead for my JVM fix.

<ducks>

I had a large volume drop when running my Helix in 4cm. I was able to adjust it from the Helix but I was just never particularly happy with it and prefer just running everything into the front now.
