Alex Lifeson's White Strat

Yeah, I was so excited about the Godin/Lerxst Sig axe..... until. That's a lot
for a Godin. A lot.

I may end up doing a build or (blasphemy!) just snagging a Charvel---as they
have a So Cal they have made in White with a Black guard---and has the
appropriate Fender-style headstock. :idk

Honestly, the Charvel build wouldn’t be bad at all. I made my 2019 So Cal into a HSS Setup and I love it. I think last time I played it I was playing Between the Wheels on it. At least the solo. I should put a trem stop and some kind of d-tuner device in for that song.

But yeah you could get close. And then add a toggle on the lower horn under the guard to have the look right.

Just seems easiest to snag a Charvel and Mod it. Never had a Charvel with a Pickguard before. :idk

I love my So Cal. I have two USA made Charvels from the early 80s/San Dimas era that are wonderful but the SoCal gave me a cool mod platform. Since I have a bunch of 2H guitars I wanted to do more SSH with an emphasis on strat tones. And it does that, mostly. The Duncan SSL-2s are a little dark with 250K pots so I upped the volume to a 500K with a 250K tone (the bridge HB doesn’t see the tone control unless it’s in the 2 position. Superswitch is a wonderful thing) and that helps. The other issue is I’m working with a Floyd vs Strat trem so no bent steel saddles. Which I firmly believe is a key ingredient of Strat tones. But I digress, it’s a wonderful guitar. I added a push/pull to split the bridge pickup on its own (it also has auto split function in pos 2) because I wanted to be able to get single coil bridge tones on clean for surfy stuff. Surf rock is a blast with a Floyd.

But yeah. Pickguard is great. You get the wonderful Charvel neck shape, Floyd but also a guitar body that you can mod easily. It’s pre routed HSH so then your only limit is your imagination.

There are only two things that make the Sportscaster different from most other Strats on the market:

1. Bil Lawrence pickup
2. 3 way switch on the lower horn. I believe wired bridge, middle + neck, neck

The pickup switch is the hardest to replicate because it requires some drilling. I'm not sure I'd even like that setup. I find it limiting. I'd rather have a 5-way or even a super switch.

Modding a Charvel is a great idea but any Olympic white Strat with a Floyd could be used depending on your preferences.

I gigged with an early 90's Godin TC Custom Tele for years. I loved that guitar. Neck went all wonky on it and I gave it up. Miss it.

Godin is amazing Dave, the quality is bye far superior to anything fender makes

I like Godin, Mike. I have one here. A Progression SSS. It's my Gilmour wanna be. Kind of.

I have had a Kingpin, an LGX, and a Freeway Classic in the past. I just have never
seen a $4,000 USD Godin before Mr. Lifeson. :idk

So… this got announced today. Still not about to drop $4K but cool that it’s out there

I had to look at other Godins because apparently all their S style guitars have that kind of upper fret access. Seems inhibitive. DNW.

Man, that is butt ugly. Looks like a toy “Strat” you'd get at Costco.

Godins always look off to me. The contours and design never add up in a way that’s appealing.
