Advanced (?) X32 question.

I don't seem to able to figure this out and don't want to mess things up ;)

I'm using the x32 in a studio setting.
The DAW sends everything to busses which correlates with the channels on the x32 works great.

I'm only using 2-3 inputs for recording which i disable during mixing to get the full 32 channels for the end stage ;).

This means my x32 is almost empty in the back. Loads of in and outputs left ;)

My inserts are full with external FX gear.
The larger rack i use via the IO plugin in logic which also has benefits of course ;)

The question
Seeing the flexibility of the x32 would it be possible to dedicate for example 16 input/outputs direct to the mixbus and use them as insert on the 32 USB channels from the daw.

I already experimented with assigning an aux to a mixbus for stereo reverb which works fine splitting the controls between volume and pan. I guess 100% would mean use as insert with the x32.

But how would you route this (if possible) without losing the full inputs from the daw ?

I'm not really familiar with the deep programming of the x32. The auxes was no problem ;)

Anyone with tips ?
In short i want to be able to use more than 3 stereo effects units externally without sacrificing my 32 channels from the daw. I'm NOT using any extra cards.

Thx in advance.

are you trying to route 100% back from the daw to the mixer to use faders for mixing? and if so- do you need 32 tracks for mixing?

No that works.
I'm asking if there is a way to use my full daw setup (sending out 32 channels)

But also be able to assign my open xlrs directly to a mixbus and connect more FX that way. I can do it direct by sacrificing channels.

90% of my mind tells me no because it's a 32 channel architecture. On the other hand there is this small 10% that thinks somehow it would be possible.

With a rack FX gear 3 stereo auxes are very limited. ;)

what about just using inserts on each used channel, and potentially chaining them?

i find i seldom use subbed fx anyhow outside verb or potentially partial compression on a buss anyhow.

oh gad.. yeah i just looked up your inputs and outputs. i cant help with that hell matrix. if i had to do all that id just stay in the box or on my own guitar rig. too much work unless youre using great outboard. wish i could help more!

I have a nice collection of outboard gear.
The x32 only has 3 stereo auxes. Via a patch panel i can already chain effects.

I've worked on older consoles were every channel had an insert point. I was trying to create something like that with hard assigned FX units each on its own mix bus. Sending 100% to LR would emulate an insert.

yeah i saw you're super limited and no inserts for channels. i think at that point theyre supplanting those unserts for onboard stuff, which is a bummer in your situation!

Luckily the IO plugin in logic works for this ;)
It's just introducing another probability for latency.
