A vs B ... Reamping with S-Gear

This is a single 40 second passage run though two of the S-Gear models. A is the Duke. B is the Wayfarer. Both of the S-Gear setups are amp only with neither the S-Gear Speaker sims or effects. The speaker sims along with EQ, preamp, trem, reverb and compression are all done in third party VSTs and the setup of the 3rd party VSTs setup is identical so the only change is the Amp. I'm curious what people think of the difference.

I enjoyed A better - I'm not the best with describing sounds but it sounds more "woody" in my opinion. B feels like it has deeper bass going on. Excellent playing, I prefer A.

I prefer B but they are very close. I would never know they were different amps. EQ is the only difference that I hear. thanks for sharing your music/playing

I will try to spend some time listening tonight, but on a quick pass with horrible iPad speakers, I think there was a bit more clarity and maybe dynamics to A. Let's see if different/better playback changes the impression.

Thanks all. I lean towards A (the Duke) as well. I've been using the Wayfarer for years as my main amp sim but I've been playing mostly through Cantabile for the last month or so and it's been a great environment for testing and dialing in the interactions between the amp sim and the other VSTs. I feel like I've been able to get a much better sound that way and the Duke really surprised me with how well it could work with the other VST's.

Both sound great with a slight preference for the duke here as well. But you could easily fool me, they both sound really close. Nice playing Jim.

S-gear is still my go-to for recording clean fender tones, and I always use either the wayfarer or the duke. It is just easy to get a good sound out of it quickly. I finally got to the point in helix that I feel like I have matched the wayfarer and duke with the super reverb and grammatico gsg, but it feels easier to get there in s-gear. The default IRs and the reverbs are very good. And the harmonic tremolo in the wayfarer is excellent.

I liked the overall tone of B more but I would cut some of the deep bass on it to avoid the volume jumps on low notes. But it's a very subtle difference between the two. Really nice sounding clip!

Thanks. Controlling the low end has always been my biggest problem just because of how I play. The thumb is all downstrokes with a lot of nail while the fingers are mostly up strokes with a lot less nail. The result is that my thumb is quite a bit louder and with stronger peaks than my fingers. I'm trying to control that with the EQ at the end of the chain but clearly it's still not enough yet.
