A New Practice Regimen (A Season Of Al DiMeola)

Cry About It Captain Kirk GIF

Holy Honkin' Mids Batman! Played with the SDs a bit last night and how. Hello, 1970s! 🍭

Kind of instantly identifiable and a bit shocking. These would not be my first choice for a
"I want to sound like me" PU. They have a lot of personality.

Going to spend some more time with them and see if they grow on me some more. Fun
experiment/experience. :beer

Sorry, Dimarzio strap. Doesn't bother me, since it plays like a dream. (Now if I gigged, that's be a different story. Maybe. :sofa )

Very Ted Nugenty. No one will even know you have a strap on it.

Camo must have been a thing in guitar accessories at some point in time. Why I don't know?
I have a Camo'd Pedalboard I use to haul my FM3 back and forth to practice and also have a
Camo Guitar Case. Got them both on clearance.

Dimarzio for the win. :knit:grin

(still waiting on my checks Larry)

SDs are in the LP. It's certainly not AL's LPC.

The unaged and very white binding on mine is not exactly
allowing the Creme SDs to melt into the aesthetic flow of
the whole guitar. Not sure what I think. Probably going to
be a grower and will come to enjoy it in good time. Now to
play it and vibe out a bit with the new to me tone and feel
of the iconic Super Distortions. :rawk

We’re gonna need some pics :hmm

It’s got potential! I’d go with matching pickup rings and gold/amber speed knobs

Are you doing the SD in series or parallel?

Yup. I have some work to do, but it is a start.

Didn't Al have some kind of coil-split on his 1971 LPC, too? That is something
I will definitely check out and try to implement in the future. It's an ongoing
project of unrepentant imitation and self-discovery.

I haven't concluded what I want to do about that just yet. I am not putting no holes
in my guitar to accomodate a toggle switch, I know that much. :hmm

I may do the coil-tap thing and series/parallel with push/pull pots. That seems like a
lot of extra work at the moment, though. Just going to delve into playing the guitar
with the SDs in it, and work on the switching and cosmetics in good time. :idk

I did already order all the necessary parts, in the meantime. :knit

Really digging the SDs. Man, even the Neck Pickup sounds great. An SD in the Neck? Crazy!

The volume roll off and cleanup is surprisingly great, too.

A bi taken aback by how much cooler they are than I assumed they would be. I was nervous
about the swap. Now I realize that there is less squoosh (it's word!) in the attack with the
ceramic magnets versus the alnico.

Big success so far! :beer

Interesting. I’ve been SD curious for a long time. You’re pushing me further that direction. I like strong attack but I also like cleanup with volume roll-off. Nice to hear these have both.

I figured they would have to clean up fairly well listening to Al’s playing with them

I bet it helps when you also use an amp with a very sensitive input like a Plexi.

But yeah, I kind of wish I had tried SDs earlier in an LP. It's iconic for a reason.
I just always assumed I was more of an Alnico guy than a Ceramic one.

Glad to have my assumptions dispelled! :beer
