When you buy new effects pedals ?

I always keep the boxes. Everything I have that isn't on my pedal board or my recording desk is in it's box in a cabinet I have specifically for my pedals. If I buy a used pedal, I will only buy ones that have the box and original materials with it. I tend to buy ones that are in new condition. I guess it is kind of an OCD thing. Yes, I have a couple of OCD pedals too. :)

Do you keep the boxes ?
I have always kept them just incase the day comes when I want to move them on.
Depends. I’m not the type that buys 40 pedals, so I can keep the 5-6 boxes of the ones I own in a closet fairly tidy. Some pedals that either don’t have resale value (Chinese clones) or pedals I know I’ll keep for 10+ years I don’t keep the boxes, but generally yes multi-FX pedals that get outclassed every 2 years have a box in the closet waiting for the day to ship it to someone else.

I definitely keep the boxes for Synergy modules as well. Those things are like trading cards and they’re really easy to re-sell and trade out for different ones and I’ve gone through a ton of them for relatively low investment.

Keeping pedals that are not in use in there boxes doesn’t take up that much extra space and keeps pedals in good dust free condition and much easier to stack/ store on shelves .
Most of ours that are in constant studio use are on sliding drawers in a Millennium rack.
It’s so easy to mix and match and make quick changes in the rack because we can find what we are looking for because it’s in its box 👌

Here’s the rack and drawers when it was being built 4/ 5 years ago.

Ooooh...I like this a lot; but it would take up a lot of space I don't have to spare in my room.

I've actually considered purchasing seven 2-space rack-mount drawers to use in underutilized rack mount boxes, to store the overage of pedals, rather than keeping them in under bed boxes.

This way, I could actually slide the pedalboards under my bed and have instant access to them, as well as the other pedals that get rotated on and off of the boards, without taking up another inch of space in my room, and while also freeing up a lot of floor space.

Haven't gotten around to it, yet :|.

Meanwhile, the boxes I've been saving for my pedals are currently filling up four large pieces of luggage in our garage.

Keep boxes for more expensive pedals and toss boxes for cheap pedals. If it's a $300 pedal, having the box helps to sell it. If it's a $75 pedal nobody really cares.

I think if you had the same two pedals for sale in the same condition one with the box and one without for same price .
The boxed one would sell first.

its kinda like keeping the box for a hammer. its gonna get beat up, and chances are pretty good, its not some spendy boutiquey thing. its a tool, and its not presh. i hate that culture, and if i bought a tool, im gonna use it, not worship it.

Yeah agreed. I'd rather sell a $75 for $65 and not have to track the box though. On the big ticket items it may be more like a $50 difference.

Or just sell a $75 pedal for $75 a day later.

Everything else being equal (which it rarely is), I ain't paying $50 more for a box, even for an FM9/Helix sized pedal.

Pedals are tools but nothing like a hammer.
Many cost a lot of money so people look after them and when not in use are kept in boxes dust free until they need to be used .
Nothing wrong with people looking after there guitars and related gear.
I’ve got some very precious pedals from the 1960s and 70s in my collection .

as a carpenter, i speak about hammers with way more respect than none. i dont mean theyre worthless, and as a lifetime tradesperson, care is implicit in owning useful and appropriate tools. but im not keeping packaging- cause im not reselling them, is my point. man- you rock it how you want to- im just a guy on the intarwebz 😄 my take is but one, and im just not a major stuff guy- so i keep most crap i buy til it falls to atoms after decades.
