Director: “We need some crossover music to play during this scene change. How about a big guitar solo that sounds like Free Bird and we’ll have the actors play air guitar to it on the stage?”

Composer: “Sounds good, let’s do it in Db

Guitarist: :cuss

I'm dumb so not sure what to be getting annoyed at; but Fb? I call that E :rollsafe

It’s one of these annoying things they do sometimes. Nobody is singing and it’s not connected to any other music, so it could be in any key. They could’ve just put it in G like Free Bird if that’s what they want it to sound like, but instead they choose to make me play Free Bird in Db.

They don’t understand that some music doesn’t transpose well for guitar. Like I’ll have them do things like “we’re going to have you play Enter Sandman, but we want it in Bb”

Gotcha. Kind of a variation in cover band land where the original recording is down a half step, your band is in 440 so you decide to play it down a half step on the neck instead of just pretending the original is in E standard and playing it like you normally would.

Yep it’s like that, and sometimes they don’t understand that the guitar riff is going to sound ridiculous in the key they want.

I would approach it like a C# minor blues thing, which isn’t too bad and pretty common, plus relative major being E. Probably how they should’ve written it. But yeah, why not just G like the original.
