Blackout job on my 1980 Vantage VLP is done and turned out exactly how I wanted:
- black frames, pickguard, poker chip
- chrome toggle cap, aged covers
Just spent 2 hours with this Japanese high-output beast from the heyday of Matsumoku builds. Such a slim and fast neck, and super-low action, tuned to C Standard with a set of 12/54's. Pure evil.
Interestingly, the closed chrome covers did somewhat tame the MMK45 humbuckers, but that's actually a good thing, since they were a bit "out there" before, and now sound more like you'd expect from a LP-style guitar. Probably to do with the magnetic field or distance, but definitely a "happy accident".
Amber speed knobs in the mail, for the final touches.
