It started life as a 2003 Special DC Faded, in what I believe was a faded Cherry finish. By the time it showed up on my local Craig's List, someone had tried to refinish it in what I think was an attempt at TV Yellow - but the end result was somewhere between school bus and safety vest yellow. It was
ugly. I ended up buying it for $450 due to the botched refin.
I brought it home, took it apart and stripped the yellow in what was admittedly a quick and dirty job (if you get real close and look at the neck joint you can still see traces of that hideous yellow). I painted it entirely white, but when it was done I kinda hated it so I stripped the neck and sides and back of the body and hit it with clear lacquer and left the top white.
My intent was to have a Gibson that I could beat the crap out of without guilt, and it's more than filled the bill. In the 11 years I've had it it's gotten extremely beaten up, being hit on stage with mic stands and cymbals and drunken audience members and it just keeps on ticking.
I've got a few Gibsons that are pretty nice, but this beat down old budget Gibson has people geeking out over it every time I take it out.
