What Guitar Are You Playing At This Very Moment...

Gibson player grade 1970s Johnny Smith, my favorite jazz box, running through tunes for tonight’s open jam at a venue about 40 minutes by car from home. Last tune before taking a break still on the tablet, from the Jazz Standard Bible (like a Japanese Real Book). I abandoned using picks and play with the thumb, adding fingers as needed.

The JS is strung with a set of TI 11 gauge round wounds with round cores and a plain G string, which I find strikes a nice balance between tone (the carved spruce top on the JS, with a maple body, sounds a bit on the dark side) and playability for jazz and my progressively aging, but still able, hands.

Played a couple of Kiesels at GC that were set up FANTASTIC. I was shocked tbh. My guitars are set up to play like a light stringed bass so it was definitely a nice change of pace :ROFLMAO:

I also played an ibanez sig from the guy from August Burns Red. Killer looks and played great \m/

I hadn’t played this Tele (actually Nocaster) through my 800 yet. Holy hell was I not expecting how much stank a Tele bridge pickup can have!!! 🤯

This is a ā€˜51 Nocaster reissue with the ā€˜50-ā€˜51 ā€œBlackguardā€ hand wound pickup set. Neck is around 7.7k (RATM anyone?) and Bridge about 9K (measured in circuit at the jack).

Easily as much output, maybe more, vs my LP R9 with PAF Custombuckers. A little bright but easy to dial down the tone knob.
