What does your “real” rig do that your modeler can’t do?

Just way more long-term things to consider with physical gear as where you can just mouse-click a change in a modeler with no money lost.

One might argue that losing money is half the fun of owning real gear - BUT'

I figure digital gear is a waste of money/near-future doorstop in the first place, so it's a matter of 'pick your poison'.

Anyone using a real cab or FRFR set to anything over mouse fart volume levels? Unless you are silent stage with in ears, chances are you will run into someone who will bitch.

My booking agent insists on 3500 seat venues at minimum. The sound guy tells me to turn up.

"OK. When was the last time you were booked at a 3500 seat venue?"

"1971, but it seems like only yesterday, Hey, Something smells in here."

"Yeah. Time for you to change your Depends."

"I have people who do that."

"Nothing like life in an assisted living facility, is there?"

"It's great. I can turn up the amps as loud as I want because no one can hear a thing."

I actually have!

In the early days of direct rigs, when sound guys were still used to amps, and before IEMs when everyone was using wedge monitors. I had a couple times when someone said the guitar was too loud and I had to remind them that I wasn’t making any sound on the stage and they had complete control over my levels.

They just heard the guitar too loud and instinctively assumed the guitar amp was too loud on stage!

I've been told to turn my QSC K8.2-on-a-stick down on a big SF stage.

HX Stomp through a 4x12 at 100+dB this past Saturday on a much smaller SF stage and nothing but praise.

Of course the former was Covers/Tribute and the latter was punk rock.

Oh I got a new one; my real rig causes me to trip over cables and pedalboards but my modeler does not!
