What Amp Are You Playing Today?

So yesterday at rehearsal I planned on using the Axe-FX direct into the PA since our next gig is at a place with very little room to setup. I was copying my main preset to make another similar preset with the right effects for a song we are adding when my bass player came in. First thing he said was “that’s not your normal sound!” I tried to roll with it, but didn’t make it through the first song before I decided to fire up the JP2C and just roll with that. I decided I can fit that and a 1x12 on the small stage right next to my smaller mixer. Sounded great, but I run through 4x12s in the studio and hope that my little Port City 1x12 will sound decent enough for the gig. I will mic it as well to compensate for the beam of the 1x12.

Last gig was my Synergy setup through a 4x12 (Killer Kali and BMan), so this will be a bit different as I’ll use the Axe-FX drives to get the BMan like low gain sounds. Absolutely love the clean and hi gain sounds on the JP2C when it is dialed in just right. Probably a good idea to snap a photo of my settings before I move the head though, as those things are pretty touchy.

I've been playing through my FM9/FR-10 rig a lot recently and decided to switch things up today and spend some time with my Rivera Suprema Jazz Recording/Los Lobottom Sub 1 rig.

It's a very different vibe than playing through the modeler and felt absolutely wonderful.

I forgot to snap a picture of my mini-stack last night, but we played on a very small stage, so I had to go with a small footprint. I ran my JP2C into a Port City 1x12 with a V30 and my vintage Boogie 1x12 with an EV. Ran the Axe-FX in 5CM (extra cable from the line out back into Axe-FX for cab emulation to the PA). Very happy with how it sounded and probably the rig I’ll go with for most gigs around this small town.

Also got to play the new Strat for the whole first set and the Gilmour pickups are perfect for me. Like a Stone and Hey You sounded so much better with that axe than with my other guitars, and even the heavier stuff in the first set was pretty good.

Here is a pic of the cabs which I use for living room practice and giving lessons. Crab Dragon on top in this pic, but it looks much better with the JP2C.
