That may have been me. This is the way to use a JC. Works on either input.

If you're seriously JC shopping keep an eye out for a JC-77. It's a 2x10 that's out of production and it's absolutely the JC sweet spot.

Well, I failed at my original mission. Being too lazy to rearrange gear and assemble a temporary test rig, I took the easy path and plugged the T120 into the Mark VII (fat channel) powered by a generic 9V wall wart.

Then I played for the next 90 minutes starting with a grin, morphing into an ear to ear smile, and evolving into pure bliss stank face.

Master Volume and Presence , Treble, and Bass controls do what you expect them to do.

Volume control acts as input gain, while the 4 Drive positions alter the overall gain potential along with significant changes to the distortion frequency response. Finally, the 6 Depth setting sculpt the low-mids and below for chest thump, wooly earthquakes, liquid sludge, or face melting, decapitating wall of sound.

Thread 'NGD - a bit of an odd one'

Local dealer got this in and I decided to go check it out. It was really tugging at me so I figured I’d gift myself an early B-day present which is a couple weeks away.

I’ve always had a soft spot for a “mutt” like this with a P90 in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge. Ever since the ‘BFG’ Les Paul that Gibson came out with in 2007 I believe.

I told myself I wasn’t going to get a relic but this is subtle enough that it doesn’t bother me. Light Aged. Just enough that I’ll never worry about the “first ding”.

R0 with a ‘V2’ spec neck. Definitely thinner than R9 but still comfy. I was...

Gigged the badlander tonight and 76 DR last night


Venue had me rub the badlander quite low and it still sounded great but the way the sound guy had me dial in clean vs high gain really just highlighted the one (for me personally) weak spot with the amp lacking a master volume. Oh well, at least I know that the venue my next gig is at has never once told me to turn down or do anything I don’t align with the channel balance on the BL.

Still wondering if I could mod this amp to have a master….. (and before someone suggests it, unfortunately the channel volumes are post loop so a volume pedal won’t do it)

I bet you could. It's such a simple circuit (for Mesa, at least). I still miss it. I could justify grabbing another as an "el34 power amp" but the lineage from the BL crunch to my Mark V crunch is almost the same exact sound. So no real variation to gain from grabbing one. Not that's ever stopped me before :rofl

On my front over the weekend; wife went shopping with a friend all day Saturday so it was LOUD day in the jam room. Played the III through the new 212 (which has 100% changed my mind on semi-open back cabs). There is still an intermittent volume issue so I am thinking I will change out the phase inverter and clean the send and return jacks and see how that goes.

I pivoted to the V with my re-organized pedal board and was still blown away. Oof. I have a Mesa dual footswitch that came with the III and set up the amp to switch channels and the solo boost function instead of bringing out the battleship footswitch it comes with. Worked perfectly \m/

Then I ran the reorg'd pedalboard into the return of the Multiwatt UP LOUD on channel 3 in modern mode and used my FM3 wrestling metal Rectifier preset for the preamp part of the equation. Oh lort. I set the input pad on the FM3 so it would take the chorus and phaser pedals on my board a bit better and through my V30 and C90 212s with the Recto power amp; HOLY CRAP. Continued amazement at the riches of :satan I have available. Oof.
