Fired up the old '73 VT-22 today, only to be flabbergasted about how brutally loud/direct/thumpy it is. Even at "lower" volume levels, this thing will reach out and beat you right in the face.

Today I'm setting up a new pedalboard with the Tone King Imperial mk II preamp and Fractal VP4 combined with the Mesa Boogie Badlander 50 combo.
As a secondary experiment, I'm going to add my Red Sound MF10 stereo monitors to augment the Badlander's Creamback for a massive wall of sound.

Did a bunch of A/Bing yesterday between the four amps on my switcher: Bogner 101b, Revv 100R, Engl Savage 60 Mk II and the Armored Sabot Gen 3. I was really hoping there'd be a clear winner between the 3 channel switchers, but they're all great in their own right and seem to excel in different ranges. The Sabot is just flat out mayhem, but its also very noisy, which I honestly think just might add to the mystique of it lmao - on one hand, it seems so noisy that maybe I should have my tech look at it, but also, I'm afraid that "fixing" it might make it less badass.

There’s definitely something to the whole Gibson through Marshall thing.While I love playing crushing metal with the IIC+… there’s just something magical playing a 100 Watt Marshall half stack…
Pedals are fun but I get the most satisfaction out of rocking out just straight in.

I don't find mine noisy but there is a trim pot on the internal extra tube.

Interesting. Mine was upgraded from a v1 so some of the controls are different. I have never noticed a trim pot. Is it inside the chassis?

Yeah, it on the small add on board with the 4th 12ax7.
I thought he said in the past it wasn't possible to update the v1 and v2 to a v3? Hmm...

Hmm, I'll have to check! I emailed him when I got it and he confirmed it was upgraded to a v3

How do you toggle between imperial/amps preamp?….bypass switch?
Is the Echolution still in the chain when you use the amps preamp? ( and the TK is bypassed)

The far right bypass switch toggles between the BL and TK preamps. The Echolution, TK tremolo, and TK reverb are available for the BL preamps as well.
