Well All Right

All I am going to say is this is the same crew/view that complains there is nothing
original or compelling about guitar-based music today. Unlike these kinds of posts
and threads which are both highly original and unequivocally compelling.

:sofa

I don’t really recall seeing anything like that around here. I do see a lot of nostalgia for the music from our respective generations, but that is not an automatic dismissal of new music. Besides, we’re not supposed to like new music. It’s aimed at the 15-25 demographic, and that ain’t us.

I find ALL that math shit boring as hell. If it doesn’t have melody, it’s nothing more than a technique practice session to my ears.

Seems a lot of modern shit is lacking melody. It's mostly soulless.

In fact, a lot of modern shit (not just music) seems soulless. No humor, no heart, no fun.

Fuck that. I want David Lee Roth to appear outta nowhere, sing "bop badda shoo-bee-do wahhh" into the mic and fucking PARTY.

Maybe it's not actually gingers that don't have souls...

Sad but true...

I like iterations on music that I loved from about ages 10-25. New music from those bands, or stuff in that wheelhouse. Otherwise it's really hard for whole new genres and things to stick.

This may be different for the ADHD brain though...maybe normal people just experience new music and it sticks? But I bet a lot of us are more like you describe.

I don't know man. That seems disingenuous and not entirely honest. These kinds of threads are as predictable...
and as boring..... and as unoriginal as Monday mornings hitting us in the face one a week.

I like some new music. Am I wrong for that?? :idk

Old minds can indeed calcify and become rigid, so them old doors don't swing open anymore. That said,
we can be pro-active about it. It's not inevitable and destined to happen to us----even if it is highly likely
to happen. Exercising our shit like we would with anything, and maybe we surprise ourselves by not being
trapped in our self-constructed boxes of best and better living in our past.

I mean, fuck me if we peaked in High School. That's sad.

It’s not that our minds calcify, simply that we are most receptive to new stuff at that age range. After that, we tend to shift our attention to other, adult things.

keep an open mind
I’ve tried. I’ve REALLY tried. I’ve listened to all of the Polyphia and Animals As Leaders albums, many of them multiple times.

And I’ve completely forgot what I’ve listened to.

I guess I just prefer music that is memorable, or that gets stuck in my head. Earworms. It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced that. Coincidentally, what @TSJMajesty just posted, Mammoth is one of them.

I don't really care much for polyphia myself, I am a big AAL fan... at least the first few albums. That stuff definitely hit at a pivotal stage in taste development too though lol

The last “new to me” music that I started to really get into was the Allman Brothers Band, so I’m moving backward.
