Wah maintenance ???

Just listened to that clip @DrewJD82 that's epic. Would be quite something to experience that in the room. I remember watching a more recent video where he'd taken that old pedalboard back out on tour again and the signal chain was nuts. Two different a/B switches and a loop switcher, he was even talking about running his 808 before his FF but he must have been running it after his FF, the buffer would have turned it into a thin fizzy mess.

Let me know when you're trying your experiment to recreate that fuzz tone. I'm down to help with that and try to build one too.

No it's a wedge enclosure I've got. These guys do a proper fuzz face enclosure replica but they're based in the UK. They are really high quality though.

I wish the Chinese company that makes the cloned mini Klon enclosures would make mini Fuzz face enclosures too. I'd buy a bunch of those.

Edit-- if you ever do make that replica let me know and I'll send you some transistors. I've got a load old Texas Instruments BC183s which would be perfect.
What about the Dunlop mini fuzz faces? Probably all surface mount?

I actually have that link saved and totally forgot about it!

Eric's was a '71 apparently. Supposedly the Fulltone '70 was based off it but without having EJ's actual rig from 1989/90 it's a little hard to tell. Soon I'll be ordering a couple of these in various sizes so I can start fucking around with DIY pedal work. https://www.coppersoundpedals.com/shop/p/diy-breadboard

And the entire reason I want to do it is to try to make my own Fuzz Face that's anywhere on par with Eric's. I can only upload this to Dropbox as YouTube blocks it immediately, but skip to 0:40 in this vid. When it cuts to the pedalboard and he steps on an A/B switch then the Fuzz Face, between the look of all the gear I had no clue WTF was and the sound coming out of that rig, my 11 year old mind was blown. My participation in this forum probably wouldn't be a thing if it weren't for those few seconds.

Good strategy with the breadboard. The FF is a simple circuit, but there’s a world of subtleties with the different transistor gains, cap values, bias, etc. Tons to learn.

Hehe....that's been a topic of discussion in some circles for quite a while.

Edit- I just dug around for some more examples of people trying out FF>TS and TS>FF and found there is something about this combination of tones (fuzz and OD) that makes these guys incapable of bending a note in key. Holy fucking shit. I don't think I've ever seen a string of guys consistently bend every note 1/4 step flat so confidently.

Yeah they're all surface mount but I've been keeping an eye out for a broken one but no luck so far. If I can find one at the right price I'll gut it, paint it candy purple and build a JHF1 inside it. A mini purple fuzz face would be adorable on a pedalboard.

I've genuinely never seen anyone use an 808 in front of a fuzz face and not have it sound like a screechy buzzy mess. Also yeah the dude in that video needs to slow down and play half the notes so you can actually hear what's going on. Also bending in tune would help.

I don't have an 808 at the minute but I'm intrigued enough to build one and try it in front of a JHF1 for a laugh. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Edit - Also I noticed a Dover Drive on EJs board in that video. I've been thinking about building one of those too, why is it the third post on every thread I can find on the dover drive anywhere on the internet is by you @DrewJD82? Usually with an accompanying video :rofl

Hahahahah I think I got more excited about those Dover Drives than EJ was.
