Acoustic amps are essentially hi-fi speakers, because they need to recreate full-range audio from acoustic pickups. You might get some clipping from pushing line-level audio into the instrument-level input, depending on your setup, but it's essentially an FRFR with different voicing. Any acoustic amp with an effects loop is closer to a true FRFR, if you plug into the return. I used acoustic amps for years, then switched to a Tech 21 Power Engine 60T, which is an open-back FRFR, for my electric violin. My rig has consisted of preamp>pedals, a Pod HD500, Helix Floor, and currently a preamp>HX Stomp. I swapped the Power Engine for a PA recently, and the only difference is less weight. Sounds great with clean effects chains or with amp models for overdrive.
