unpopular discussion: cases!

Man, I used to love a good, sturdy guitar case. The Ibanez cases from the 90's with the crushed velvet interior.....and that smell....

But once I had a few of them and space got tighter I realized how annoying they are. I can pretty much live with one hard case, one good soft case and be fine, all my guitars are on a rack and I only put them in a case to travel. I was just thinking yesterday of where I can put the damn things so I can have space in my studio for music-making objects and not 20feet of frickin cases.

My PRS gigbag gets the most used.

I do want to get a couple tweed cases for my Strats, but that's just the fucking geek in me.

I am a case junkie. I am OCD about all of my guitars having a hard case. When I am taking them out of the house, I have a couple of Protec double gig bags I love. They are bags #1 and #3.

They are crazy heavy when carrying two Les Pauls.

I actually never use cases unless I'm in fact flying with guitars (which happens maybe once every 3-4 years - and even then I try to get them into the cabin somehow). Got two Gator dual gigbacks (el/el and el/ac) which suit all my needs perfectly. Oh, ok, I also have a semi case/gigbag thing for acoustics (those thick styrofoam things) when I bring two electrics and an acoustic and that was it.
Cases are annoying me to no end as you can't slap them over your shoulder or back.

i went with this one for this application! the big rectangles are okay if yer just porting them in a car or a van- but the half mile walk with em at an airport or train station.. uuugh. thisll be a good middle ground between a big honkin case and a gigbag.

I have a rack full of hardshell cases in the basement, but always use a gig bag for actual transportation. The Mono dual bag has been a good investment for me.

Absolutely the same here, loads of cases somewhere, none are ever used.
Fwiw, while I can understand it's not exactly useful for flight cases, I fail to understand how there's pretty much no cases with decent strap solutions, so you could carry them on your back (or shoulder).
"Wasting" both hands for cases (I typically bring at least two guitars) is just that, a waste, when you can comfortably carry two guitars over one shoulder in a dual gig bag.
