Tone shaping guitar pickups?

Guitars have a fundamental acoustic character that the pickup adds to and so does the amp but you can only homogenise it you can’t change this aspect . The more things you put in the signal chain the more you lose it though.

I'm trying to see the upside to this device. It could be useful and fun for some, but imo it's a little bit gimmicky and only adds complexity. And at $900+ it doesn't even get a second thought from me. I'd rather have a guitar that does a few things very well than be a jack-of-all trades/master of none.
Plus, having extra guitars that play very well these days is affordable. If I want a tele sound, I'll just play a tele.

This seems like a cool product, but it totally misses the thing that makes owning different guitars interesting. When I pick up my Strat or Tele, I'm not thinking about playing balls to the wall metal on it. When I pick up my 8-string headless, I'm not thinking about playing blues on it. Not that you can't, but different guitars inspire in a different way.

So even if it was 1:1 able to mimic the sound of every pickup in the world...I don't know if I'd want it. I could see use in it for dialing in your perfect pickup sound, but less so as a "replace all your guitars" product.

It would be interesting to see the details in how it works, but it didn't sound super impressive to me. The "Strat" settings still sounded like rail humbuckers.

This, this and more this.
