Tone King Imperial Preamp pedal

I'd love to hear a shootout between the Imperial pedal and the UA Dream '65.
Given that the reverb, trem & speaker sim are digital on the Imperial, this will be an interesting one.

Depends what you are using to amplify it.
I'm thinking of using my V3 Archangel FR-10, my Rivera Suprema Jazz Recording, or even the power section of my Catalyst CX100. That's what I have around the house now and it will be interesting to hear the differences.

I think of the three the FR-10 is the best all around candidate for it and no matter how it sounds that it should sound better going into the Catalyst than just using the combo's preamp for clean and low gain tones.

While I doubt the preamp will sound better clean than the Rivera it would add a gain option the Suprema Jazz doesn't have so I'll definitely check that out as well.

Of course going into a Fryette Power Station PS-100 with a 1x12 should also be a great option but I'll have to wait to try that out when I bring them home.

Ordered this and then started second guessing myself... So I have (what is probably a dumb) question:

I've looked at the i/o layout but didn't see anything marked MONO. Can I safely assume that, if I'm running mono into my Fender FR12, I'd just run out of the Balanced Out Left?

Again, sorry for the (probably) dumb question. I'm just new to all this.

Ok, given I would not use those, would I be able to use it fully analog with anything related to the core sound or are parts of, say, the power amp section digital as well? From what I've read, the power amp section sits behind the internal FX loop, so you might not be able to get rid of all things digital when using it...
check the manual, there’s a secondary loop to put it in 4cm with an amp…the output going into the return of the amp is pre cabsim.

Yes, you can safely assume that you can run mono out to your FR12.

While I'm waiting for my Tone King pedal to arrive I just sold my Dream '65 pedal, so unfortunately I can't compare them in realtime.

I can’t find it, but IIRC the TK rep specified what output to use to go into a powered "FRFR" speaker at TOP.

I was curious, too, as my pedal is being delivered tomorrow, and I have a FR10 :grin

Did you find out how to connect it or no?

I need to stop listening to clips of this thing, or else. :rofl

Good drive and fuzz into the front, VP4 into the stereo loop:

Haven't heard any totally clean funky things from this thing so far, one of the key requirements for anything amp-ish to find a place in my arsenal.
Anyone else?

This thing sounds incredible. And the 3 cable method feature is awesome. I'm seriously considering getting one and using it along with my Friedman IR-D. That would be the ultimate DI rig.

Agreed. Two tones that are essential to me, Jazz and Funk, seem to be absent from the clips I've heard.

I took delivery of mine yesterday but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I'll spend some time with it this weekend and report back.

Most of the vids have clean demonstrations, just not playing in a funky style necessarily. It stays clean but can get hair as you crank the volume and adjust attenuator control. The rhythm channel is supposed to be voiced after a BF Fender so there shouldn't be any problems with playing funk style.

Sure, but I'd really like to know how tight things actually are. Not that I'd have too many doubts that this thing would work, but quite some of the models I know of aren't as tight as I'd like them to be. But we'll see.
