(and the hand, and arm, and shoulder). And of course, it's not the only thing that impacts tone. But the only music I can think where it isn't a very important part of the tone...is not music that moves me much.
I don't believe it changes from genre to genre, it's the same thing that dictates that Steve Vai will never sound like Steve Jones just the same as the Periphery guys will never sound like the Polyphia guys.

When guitarist talk about "toan is in the fingers" and then you ask them to lower bass and treble and increase mids with nothing but fretting fingers they get angry and explanations start to roll in.
The base argument pretty much is between group A that will adjust their playing to what they play through, and group B that will adjust the controls of what they play through so they don't have to adjust their playing.
