way more fun to build your own Jose to taste from a Plexi. Add a gain stage, master volume, clipping diodes, tinker with tone stack, presence circuit and NFB as you see fit. The cool thing is you can configure whichever mods you like.

100%. After the modded 800 amp got shown at NAMM I screwed around with the stock 800 model in the Axe and after flipping two switches (sat switch and FAS boost) the thing was a fire breather. You can hot rod all these classic amps with just a couple clicks. It was a good reminder that you can soup up these classic amps to compete with the more modern uber gainez amps, and they actually sound a little more raw, natural, open (pick a descriptor)

I like to assign the saturation switch (on ideal mode to avoid volume loss) and input boosts to a control switch so that I can engage them like a second channel on the fly.

Not sure how much is myth and legend versus facts. Apparently one
of the best sounding Marshalls found upon Jose's passing was one
labelled "Atomica." The amp eventually disappeared, and Mark Cameron
tried to reconstruct it and sold it as one of his Cameron Amp offerings.

I have checked it out before, but didn't know the Jose Arredondo connection
until digging a bit deeper this weekend.

Seems like I asked before but I don't remember the answer... I wonder if the Camerons that were modeled were actual Mark-built or the production Rob/Brad era ones.

Wasn't Cameron still building them himself, just under the supervision of Rob/Brad/Dave to ensure orders actually got out the door?
 
How did I miss this thread? I have a preset using that amp. And I don't really like Marshalls any more. (Ducks for cover.)

But that could have something to do with the tones I gravitate to these days. I still love the sound, just not for me and what I mostly play.

Yep I do too. My favorite amps in the FM9 are the Atomica and the Mark-style Mesa amps. I'm currently getting great tones out of the Mark IV amp models, which is causing me to not get the most recent update because as soon as I start using that old model, of course there's a firmware update that is going to update that specific model and I don't want any changes to it right now while I'm writing and recording with it.

That's pretty much where I'm at, except mine is the Mk V, and I don't write/record. But I love my sounds as-is, so I'm still on FW25 (on the III.)

Actually, my favorite preset uses the Mk V, Red Mk IV mode. Go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :rawk
