Love them or hate them but I do think one thing NDSP has done right is created a path for themselves with the archetypes and younger players. A lot of them don’t care or even know about all the amp models and nuances of specific reverb, delay, speaker types. They pick a player they like, buy the plugin and it’s all just kinda generic names, which to be honest isn’t bad or wrong. Sometimes the label on the device is more important to players than the sound. What I've learned so far -- the goal is to perfectly model an imperfect amp. Sounds simple enough.![]()
One thing to consider going forward into the future... new guitarists will have not been exposed to real classic amps like a lot of us may have been. It's already been happening, but imagine 20 yrs from now. Heck, there are many models of amps I've never played in person. So at what point does it not matter how accurate something is as long as it has a certain vibe that a player likes?
But I understand, if you are modeling a certain tube amp, you need to understand how the real circuit functions from input to output to better mimic behavior in a model. It sounds like a crap ton of work, and I applaud guys like @FractalAudio who have gone to great lengths to be as accurate as possible. I'm just thankful I can enjoy the fruits of their labor, it's a great time to be a guitarist.![]()
Edit - I should add the cliff has done this too with the FAS models too but stated nobody really uses them.
