I'll get around to doing a Rectifier thread (Dez). After checking Genome out, I figured I'd do a bit of 5150 reamping. Yes, this amp has been modelled to death. Some got close quicker than others, most disappointed me in doing what the amp did within about 2 seconds of twiddling knobs.

Clips here, settings used below. The embedded playlist thing stops at 7 tracks so Genome is linked after.

I'll give more thoughts in due course.

i remember playing one of the original peaveys when they came out and it was such an insane departure from anything id played in like 1995 that i hated it  it had so much gain and the eq seemed so wrong.. i couldnt get any sound out of it i liked. im fairly certain id probably fail miserably at it even now... but i played a 6505 maybe a decade ago and just had a fricken blast riffing. its not my style of amp- but theyre really fun for chunn riffin!

I forgot it has the the 6505 🤦‍♂️
PV 505! That’s the one I was using the other day that I was totally loving. I don’t know how “accurate” it is but it was doing the thing well enough. ❤️

Also any modeler that doesn’t have a model of the 5150/6505 should be thrown in a dumpster.

And I freely admit I’m making an allowance for 6505 because the QC has it but honestly it should be a 5150. They’re not that fucking hard to come by and modeling a 6505, same or not, feels like cutting corners.

I do like the Nolly 5150 better with the same settings. I spent some time riffing between the two earlier 🤓

I’m curious to hear how they differ at the same settings. Is it somewhat like the STL differences (same same but different)?

I don’t think this would bother me in the slightest - it’s a different name and little else. But yeah, calling it 5150 is better than calling it 6505 even though I think most people know the score whichever name is used.

It really shouldn’t bother me either. It’s just kinda the principle of it, probably made worse by the amount of crap they’ve gotten in the past. It makes me feel like they should at least feel like there’s no room for half-assing stuff, especially when it’s so easy to just do it right in the first place.

The 5150 is “The One”. The 6505 is “effectively the same but not quite exactly.” I mean at least give me the 6505 - 1992 Original lol (I realize the PV 505 was in the QC before that amp was released but still.).

Again, not a big deal really. I’m just saying if given the choice between putting a 5150 or a 6505 in your top-shelf modeler, you just take the 5150 on general principle right? While the 6505 allows you to answer questions with “it’s the same amp,” those questions never exist if you just get a 5150. And to take that to the extreme, get a block letter to squash any other questions.

Again though…the 6505 in the box is doing the thing quite nicely for me so I’m totally just nitpicking. Especially so considering I had a 5150 block letter and a 6505 at the same time and they were identical in the room as far as I could tell. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’ll record it tomorrow!
