The Other Place - interesting read

Wondering how much Enthused Digital paid.
And fwiw, their website looks precisely like something I'd never want to have to deal with.

Who the fuck pays to be a “member” of a public forum? What benefits do you get besides being able to post threads in the classifieds section and notoriety?
I paid a while back to have my stuff in the classifieds but have never actually been able to get a deal going over there.

Well, you support the people behind it. Which is a good idea in my book, at least in case the people behind it are support-worthy.
But tbh, I rather make a donation every now and then instead of dealing with any kind of membership, let alone something that says "auto-renewal".

That’s an option I think. I think you can do a month option.

That’s deserving a few Yikes.

Never good when some of your longest members are the first to walk away. Sevenstring.org was a bit jacked when Enthusiast took over, the site was running like mud for a few weeks until they finally got someone to unclog the drain, but there’s no more direct contact with an owner.

From an owner’s POV, these situations are educational for sure. I know one thing is for certain, I have yet to see a forum get sold and it’s worked out better for the members, or even kept it equal ground from what it was pre-sale. There’s variations of decay they experience before finally hitting the point where it’s a total shitshow.

Early days like 2008 I remember you could get good deals in the emporium. Whenever I needed to sell something I'd pay to list and it was good at the time. Then the slow slog everything being overpriced and all the flippers. It's not even worth it anymore. People are too smart :farley and want top dollar for their bs.

Some of my best deals have come from the Emporium there - Like-New PRS Core DGT $1550, Good Condition American Fender Strat $575....many others....all in that 2008-2012 period.

Interestingly, I've never managed to sell anything there and always wound up at ebay/Reverb in the end.

TGP and SSO are both crawling with browser take over malware. This has been the case for a bit but I’ve noticed it’s gotten even worse over the last couple months

“Hate malware? Become a member today!!”

So how much did Scott and Brian make selling TGP to the new owners? Anyone know? I'm curious!

So someone from the staff finally decided to chime in today (I guess keeping in mind the long holiday weekend…?):

Post in thread 'Be careful when renewing your TGP “membership”'

I’d imagine DGT has been there quite a while and I can understand his diplomatic post, but I believe the extent of their “growing pains” will have more to do with ad revenue behind the scenes than a single thing with enhancing or maintaining the member experience.

I don’t doubt that at all. It started out as a labor of love (after Brian shut down the original PRS forum, of which I was a member). But as time passed, it seemed to be more and more about the money and less about the gear. The suspect activities around the QC and TMP launches pretty well confirmed this.
