The Official Original Artificial Intelligence We're All F***ing Doomed Thread

True story. :D

The only thing (OK, the primary thing) that separates the Terminator from reality is the (in)feasibility of time travel. But that’s no small matter.

Maybe the only reason we’re still here to talk about it.

Either A. Time travel isn’t possible, or B. The T-800’s just want to blend in and be your friend, man.

Got no religion
Don’t need no friends
Got all I want and I don’t need to pretend
Don’t try to reach me cause I’ll tear up your mind
I’ve seen the future and I’ve left it behind

Apparently @ChordInversion finds it funny. I will say some of the comments by viewers are pretty unhinged.
I find 'AI' claims to be completely out of proportion to the known trajectory of what is mostly very limited code. It's fine for coding assistance. It's pretty bad at most other things. It's also spectacularly mm oney losing. I didn't watch to whole thing to see if he claimed the "AGI" myth was imminent. If so, it's not.

There's a whole sub-industry of hype framed as criticism and alarmism. It's like McDonald's saying "If the McRib were not for a limited time only, it would shatter the pillars of civilization with its deliciousness."

What we are not prepared for in 2027 is this truly epic bubble popping.

That and looking back to realize that the powers that be have wasted and even reversed several years’ opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on climate change.

And this - AGI/ASI turning out to be a bust - might just be our best case scenario.

I do think LLM‘s are useful, and I’m not entirely against AI to an extent. But I also think that given these companies are anything but altruistic, there should be more oversight.

I agree, but who should do it? In this day and age, I cannot even imagine an altruistic supervisory authority.

I agree; that is a very difficult question. But when you’ve got teenagers killing themselves already over this, it’s clear that things are gonna potentially get worse in that regard. The people running these companies are only about money. They don’t care about anyone but themselves.
Just like other forms of technology, AI can be as much of a problem as it is a benefit. People getting therapy from AI, or companionship from it is extremely disturbing to me.
