The Celestion G12 Gold

Looking for info on users of this speaker. What style of music do you use it for, opinions, what other speaker would you say it sounds similar to (if any)

my experience of them comes from my other guitarist loading one and a g12h30 anni in a classic fender cab and played with a blonde bassman head LOUD. to date, i think its one of the most incendiary semi classic rock tones i can remember. it had all ranges well repd- but was super touch sensitive and had pretty prevalent mids- not chunny low mids, not presence type upper mids- i mean guitar fundamental frequency data. it didnt sound really much like a blue at all- much less screechy and bright- but still nicely 3d. it sounded very much like a pair of great celestions, but in the best way- krangy and light, just with an overwhelming amount of midrange harmonic detail versus something like a v30 which has a 2d blanchy midrange and too much upper mid. theyre really nice sounding beasts!

I have zero experience with the 12" Golds, but I'm a huge fan of the 10" Celestion Golds. I have them paired with Greenbacks im a Mojotone British 4x10 cab.


This combination sounds great with my Ceriatone King Kong 50, Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50, Orange OR15H, and my Badlander 100.

If they weren't so hideously expensive (and quite rare used over here), I'd have a 4x10 with 10" Golds.

I honesty couldn’t give you tonal specifics, but I had one in a 1x12 open back extension cab and I thought it was the best sounding speaker I’d ever used.

I used it with Vox, Matchless, Bad Cat, and Dr Z heads for just about everything but metal and it always sounded

I love the speaker. I sold one several years ago and regret that. I recently picked up a used one relatively dirt cheap locally. I put it in my Badlander 50 combo and I can't stop playing the amp both clean and dirty. It may not be best for all types of music but it's my favorite speaker.

The gold is one of my favourite speakers ever. If I could only use one speaker, it would probably be the gold. It is extremely versatile. It handles high gain better than nearly any other alnico speaker I have tried. Plus it excels at cleans and low gain.

I have a gold and greenback celestions in my Dr Z cab for 10 plus years, so I figure I like em. Music is Americana/Cow Punk. Hiwatt heads and a 62 blonde Bassman.

blonde bassman and gold/greens is definitely a magic combo. man, i think we're tonal brothers :lol: we have the same tastes!

Breaks up quickly. Little smoother than the Blue. I’ve used 2 golds in a 212, mixed in a 412, and alone in a 112. Mostly with Marshall’s. Clean to hard rock they are dynamic and sound great. Great crunch tones.

As with any speaker the amp’s gonna matter. I don’t expect one speaker to be the best with all my amps. Example would be I much prefer my Heritage 65’s with my 2203x than the golds.

I spent $600 to find out. Wouldn’t do it again. I get great sounds without them too. Buy used if ya can. Then it won’t hurt as bad if you don’t like em like some do.
