I guess this is the reason why the Ibanez JPMs have different volume knot location. It would be good for person like me if all Ibanez RG can adopt the JPM way

yes, also his Musicman guitars have the volume control "far".
I think the most extreme Ibanez ones are the Paul Gilbert models. He has mentioned that issue a few times when talking baout the guitars

There seems to be two schools to this: Those who love that they can just reach with their finger to turn the volume, and those that hate it because they keep hitting the knob.

Closest of my guitars is probably the G&L Legacy, similar position to Strats. Never bothered me much.
