TGF Official Amp Mesa Boogie Mark series. Join the fun and get one today!

i leave the pulls all in but lead bright and the gain boost, and crank up the presence. same basic idea though. the part that makes most mesa guys heads explode is that it basically drives mids up to about 8.. which in the grander scheme of things is meaningless if it sounds good, and it DOES. but it sounds like a fender on tilt, not metal. the presence cranked up 7-10 like that and the touch sensitivity goes off the charts too! im glad its workin for ya! i took about four months a year ago and applued scientific method to getting this amp to be my friend cause i almost sold it. glad i didnt!

Ah, that's the difference...I have the presence at 5. I'll give that a try too. But what's so amazing is how huge it sounds with the gain boost pulled, even at lower volume. Mids are at 2 and bass is off, graphic is a subtle smile. Don't think I'll ever use it the old way again, but I won't know for sure until I use it this way at a show...sure sounds promising though.

Thanks again for the tip...like getting a new amp!

you dont even need to dial bass or mids- theyre shut off when you pull the gain boost! you can put em at ten or zero..
 thats what i was saying- it cranks the mids up to about 8 and bass to about three, and all you get is treble and gain. i love me some idjit proofing

another dif is, i have no eq either- so you have a little more control than i do- but it does really well regardless, and im with you in that it gets bass way fuller at lower volumes. its a great trick, for sure.

are you running an evm in yours?

Ok, I get it now...takes me awhile to catch on. :p

My IIB is a 60/100 head. I have a pair of EVM12L loaded thiele cabs, a EVM10L 2x10 cab, and a Marshall 1965A 4x10. Kills with all of them.

right on- yeah i have the combo and thiele both with evms, and a vert 212 also with evms- and all work well!

i havent tried it into celestions yet, and suspect itd be pretty marshall flavored- especially with the treble shift on.

So went back and forth with a Gibson Mesa rep today. Turns out the Mk 35 rackmount kit will work for my Mk III combo rehouse. I am going that route instead of continuing my procrastination streak with waiting for a headshell to pop up locally for $200. Or sending some internet rando with admittedly good references ~$500 via PPG.

Congrats man. I was such a happy camper to finally get my blue stripe out of the combo and into a head shell. The expense sucks but at least it’s a one time thing.

For un-comboing?

I thought I would build a headshell for my Mark V combo, but turns out it's the perfect height when sitting on top of my 2x12 cab, and looks good with the black cab. So haven't bothered doing that.
