TGF Do Something Challenge - Season 9 Week 2

Nice!! Excellent work! :cheers

Love that Album. :love

When it came out my friends and I were so blown away we had to learn every song on it.

Did the same thing with Sap and Jar Of Flies. :banana

Thanks @la szum!

Yeah love this album, this and Temple of the Dog are two of those lightning in a bottle albums that I am so happy exist. This one had me digging into Mike McCready's tones and rig setup and when I learned how to run delays into the front of an amp and got hooked on univibe/rotovibe sounds.

...and I had almost posted a Sap cover instead :ROFLMAO: Maybe that's a sign...

Trying to get back in this!

I'm not finished with this yet but I can see how the rest of my week is going to go so I'm just going to post it now-

Maybe I can squeeze out the solo before the weekend and get my catch-up point.

I think that's the version with just the Solar on it, Mark IV on the left and the IIC++ (Fractal) on the right, half of it is the scratch guitars and has since been replaced with the Orville/JCM800.

Some very nice riffs in there! Did I actually hear some Chuck Schuldiner influences in the middle?

It’d be by the way of people who were influenced by him. I have no probs with Death or Control Denied, I just haven’t taken the time to really dig in. Really, Cattle Decapitation pretty much makes up the total of death metal I listen to, but I really should start checking out the genre more, I love the riffs.

It's probably similar to me and Black Sabbath. I've always been heavily influenced by bands that cited Black Sabbath as their main influence. Despite this, I never listened to Black Sabbath because I only knew Paranoid and found the song utterly boring and stupid (I still do). It wasn't until I was almost 40 that I finally gave the band chance and then got really upset with myself for ignoring them for so long just because of one song.

Hahahahah I can definitely identify with that one, too! One of the guitarists in a previous bands is a huge Sabbath fan and would assume I was trying to write Iommi flavored riffs but they were all Cantrell/AIC inspired.

A few weeks back I listened to someone’s tune on Reddit, they cited Avenged Sevenfold as their bigger influence, all I could hear during the solo was Vai phrasing.

Just bought the MIDI pack from Toontrack by their drummer and trying to put something together this week using it! Can’t believe I missed out on Cattle Decapitation until just before we caught their latest gig around these parts.

I have just today to get something together so no promises! One day I’ll learn how to finger-tap drums or something…

I didn’t know he did a MIDI pack! I’ll have to look that up!! Love that dude’s playing!!

I generally program my own (I only dropped a couple fills into the one above) but some dudes I’d happily use their MIDI’s.

Yeah it’s called ”Death Metal” but is not the same as the EZDrummer expansion…He does a wide range of metal grooves, all in 4/4 as well which is perfect for me (that need to sit with the basics a lot more). I previewed them a bit and thought they could be good springboards!

I just start with midi packs too and go in and edit parts as needed. They're a great starting point and inspire me to play riffs and definitely influence how I may do a bridge or chorus. But I kind of like that instead of mapping everything out to a tee.

This is so badass - so much ear candy in this track - are the ascending parts in the bridge using a whammy? Love it!
