Welcome to The Gear Forum "Do Something Challenge" - Season 9 Week 1

This boot was made for jammin'
That's what this boot will do
One of these days this boot is gonna
Kick some brand new tunes

And that day is TODAY! So fire up your steam powered tube amps (if you don't have one, use what you got) and kick out some righteous jams people, the challenge is HERE!!

If you are not hip to what this is all about, go here and here to get the skinny and then come back to join the game! Long and short is, this is a Challenge to YOU and all other TGF members to MAKE SOME NOISE (aka Music but some may question that). This is a motivation to create something rather than ramble on about gear that you have acquired to create something with ;~))

Season 8 was truly great. We set a record for number of submissions per participant. We were REALLY close to breaking the record for number of submissions for a Season as well, but fell just shy of that mark. Let's CRUSH those numbers this Season and show the other lazy bastids on this and other forums what this gear was made for!

Based on off season activity, it looks like the Champ (@PLX ) is ready to crush us all, so let's step up and give him a go for the lead! What you post does not need to be complicated. It does not need to be a complete song. It does not need to be a radio ready studio quality masterpiece. This is just a place to ensure that you are creating SOMETHING and putting it out there. Nothing more and nothing less. Congrats to all those sporting their TGF Recording Artist banners, you earned them and deserve them! Make sure you get at least one entry in this season to maintain that prestigious distinction!!

So get on it people, original song, cover song, wank/riff/lick/jam or a video/graphic (which we are calling "In Our Eyes") of your (s)hits and pmisses! Remember that with each submission, I would like you to insert a tag (that is a text string with a # sign in front of it). This helps me to count and validate the count of the submits for the Challenge. It is very simple! If you submit a Cover Song, put the following tag in your submit post - #Cover. If you submit an original song, put a #Orig tag in your post. For a wank/riff/lick/jam submission, use the #WRLJ tag. And if it is a video/graphic submission that you are posting, use a #IOE tag. If you forget to put it into your post, simply go back and "Edit" your post by clicking on the "Edit" link in the lower left of your post and type or paste in the appropriate tag. Very simple very easy! If you need definition of what any of these categories are, refer to the Season 9 Introduction post for details! And as usual, Season progress and previous Season info/results can be found at this link (results are generally entered at the end of each week so don't expect your entry from last night to already be in there, it is not a real time spreadsheet)! Week 1 for this season will end on July 5, 2025 at 11:59pm HT. Week 2 will start on July 6, 2025 at 12:00 am ET (yes, I know there is some overlap - deal with it).

LET THE PLAY BEGIN!!!

Part of my Sunday series today. I guess it qualifies as 'do something'. :grin

This is really good! It reminds me a little of my childhood, when I listened to a lot of radio play cassettes, often the tales from Michael Ende that were so popular in the 80s, such as The Neverending Story or Momo. There were always ambient soundscape moments like this with these cassettes.

Thanks. :beer

I'm not familiar with those radio programs but that's cool! Mine do have a bit of a fantasy-esque vibe to them. Not that I'm necessarily going for that but they just come out that way.

Another one I mustered up today. Just an idea and I went with it. Rock or something like that.
I was going to put in a lead but I'm ok how it turned out.

Guitar and bass sounds come from HX Native, further tweaked with Moog plugins and others.
Drums are SD3.

Man, I thought that was a filtered/distorted vocal in the first bit, could have sworn I heard it saying “get up, go” at certain points. Cool sounds all over that, man!
