Sunday Sunday Sunday! SEE - musicians submitting their latest audio creations to the greatest show on TGF!! The Do Something Challenge - Season 9 ;~))
Beginning next Sunday, June 29, 2025!!!
For this season we will have the following categories:
Original Song (#ORIG) - This should be obvious but to be clear, this would be a song or musical piece that is original and relatively new. Not something you did in 1995 and reworked to submit here (though if you did start it over from scratch and all but the original concept is new, that is fine too). If your submission is NOT something that you can repeat and has structure (like verse/chorus/bridge) then that would be considered a Wank/Riff/Lick which you can find below.
Cover Song (#COVER) - For those of you who need an explanation, this would be a song originally written by someone else, and you given it your own spin.
Wank/Riff/Lick/Jam (#WRLJ) - That cool riff you came up with last night, that sweet lick you have been playing to fill in where you vocalist can't quite keep the audience interested, that wank you got stuck on the other day that you think is worth sharing, that jam you did over the top of a backing track. That kind of stuff ;~))
In Our Eyes (#IOE) - This is a new category for this season. This would be submissions consisting of music videos, shots of live playing, album/song artwork, etc. Any visual elements you can point to that are directly related to the music you are creating. Even a Youtube video of you playing an original or cover song could be entered in this category (but you will need to pick one category, you can not enter it in multiple categories - also on this, no entry of song in one submit and the artwork in another). I thought this might motivate some of us to start adding that music video visual element to what we want to share! Get crazy and make us think/blink ;~))
As requested over the past several seasons, please mark your submits with the appropriate tag (#ORIG, #COVER, #WRLJ, #IOE)! So somewhere in the post of your submit, type or paste one of those tags. This allows me to do a more accurate count of the submissions and also helps to enter the song into it's intended category. If your submit does NOT have a tag, it may not get counted. And even if it does get counted without a tag, it may not be classified into the category you want to submit it into. It is not hard! Just copy and paste OR type a # symbol and the letters shown above in each categories tag. If you forget to do this when you make a post, go back and click on the "Edit" link in the lower left section of your post and put it in there ;~)) One tag per submission post, you decide which fits best!
As mentioned above, Season 9 will commence on June 29th, 2025. It will last through August 23, 2025. Here is the weekly schedule:
Week 1 - Jun 29th - Jul 5th
Week 2 - Jul 6th - Jul 12th
Week 3 - Jul 13th - Jul 19th
Week 4 - Jul 20th - Jul 26th
Week 5 - Jul 27th - Aug 2nd
Week 6 - Aug 3rd - Aug 9th
Week 7 - Aug 10th - Aug 16th
Week 8 - Aug 17th - Aug 23rd
After each week's submissions, we will tally the entries and let you know who is in the lead and a whole lot more. The spreadsheet for the challenge can be found here. There is a lot of data here for the entire challenge history, though there is more data available for the later seasons. If you are not familiar with spreadsheets, the different seasons and master totals (all seasons) are accessible via the tabs along the bottom. By default, the spreadsheet will open to the latest week or season results, but you are welcome to browse through all seasons to find some fun stats and put things into perspective.
So get your fresh strings installed, plug it in, turn it up and hit RECORD! WE Challenge YOU to DO SOMETHING!!!
