There is a reason we have a special word for 12! Nothing like a dozen ;~)) The base-12 system used by the ancient civilizations stemmed from the 12 lunar cycles each year (so sayeth the Moondog). So here we are, The Gear Forum "Do Something Challenge" Season 12 ;~)) And don't even start with the baker's dozen shiite! We all know that is next Season where we will bake up "one more", similar to Season 11's credo.

For the uninitiated, please go to the "Do Something Challenge" outline to read up on what this is all about and what the general rules are. If you don't, and you f up, the label may drop you or not release your album (unless you change the artwork)!

What's that, you have no idea what is going on here and you didn't read the page linked above? OK, here you go you lazy turd:

1. Make and record some music NOW (not stuff you did last month, not stuff you did in high school, NOW stuff).
2. Upload it to soundcloud, Youtube or wherever you like.
3. Put a link in the current weeks thread (this thread is Season 12 Week 1) with a tag to identify what type of music it is. Tag options are #Orig (for an original song), #Cover (for a cover song), #Jam (for a riff or lick or jam that is not a song) and #Collab (for a collaboration piece between you and another participating forum member). Don't put in a tag, be prepared to have your entry NOT counted! It ain't rocket science and it takes seconds at best.
4. Sit back and wait for the adulations to pour in (and be sure to hand out your own adulations as well to the other participants - don't be a dick).
5. When the season is over, you will get a banner under your avatar showing that you are a TGF Recording Artist and if you really step up and produce, you may get the illustrious "TGF Champion" banner!

This whole endeavor is intended to encourage members to USE THEIR F'IN GEAR AND SHARE WHAT THEY CREATE! To browse previous seasons, you can go to the DSC Archive ;~)) Season 12 will be half a dozen weeks long and starts NOW! It will close June 06, 2026 at 11:59 pm HT. Week 1 for Season 12 will end on Saturday May 2, 2026 at 11:59 pm HT. Each week is from Sunday through Saturday. For more details on 2026 DSC scheduling, see this post!

So all that said, get to bakin' some grooves, and while you are at it, make it a dozen! Looking forward to all of the baked goodies from our old and new artists. Be sure to spread the word and recruit those who have not be christened in the waters of the DSC ;~))

Trying to get back into doing something instead of just messing around.

All-analog synthesis on my modular. Sequenced with the Oxi One mkII. Big sky MX for tape delay and Mercury X for a bit of reverb.

Nice work Alec!
I really like that fat bass tone. :love

Awesome start with the synth sounds, guys. Really digging it.

I did this three days ago. @moondog , please let me know if that's against the rules.

I used a Waldorf Iridium Core, an Elektron Cycles and a Micromonsta 2, as well as a couple of Halion tracks for this.

Been a pretty productive time musically for me. Is there a threshold for stuff to be uploaded for the contest? Perhaps in the past week?

Let me know. I might just post them without tags in case they don't count, on the offbeat chance someone might be interested.

EDIT: Given Moondog's approval, I am adding the #orig tag to this.

Just keep it fresh! Not going to trip about specific dates, as long as they are recent ;~)) But that is me and if someone else takes over this circus, it could change so keep that in mind!!! Thanks for your continued participation and contributions ;~))

Thanks for the clarification, @moondog. I'll just post a couple more out of the many I did this past week.

I've had a lot of time on my hands lately, but don't want to flood the thread with just my music. Might as well consider the two as one original.

This is called, "The Moon Follows The Freezing Man".

This is an ESP Richard Z guitar being run into a Victory Kraken MKI. That's routed to a Fryette PS-2 before the signal is sent to an Axe FXIII for cabs.

And this is "Humans Hunting People Hunting Humans".

I ran a Mesa Boogie Quad into a VHT 2902 for the guitars. The cab was an Orange 2x12 miced up with an E906 microphone. Bass was an Ibanez SR5000 split into a DI track and one loaded with Parallax.

This is just a quickie I made late last night for my Sunday series, but I’ll post here too since it is… something. :knit

I used Iris 2 for my synth tones, backwards guitar started in ICONS plugin with an EJ preset.

Thanks @ᛗᛜᛜᚺDᛜᎶ Ꮤᛨᚳᚴ for keeping the DSC going. :beer

As usual some great stuff there! You always have a way with the sound quality as well as the songs.

Prompted me to load up the iZotope Product installer and install Iris, which I haven't done since I got the new laptop. Sure hope it is still compatible with the newest MacOS and Logic.

Digging everything so far, especially all of the cool synth stuff... on a guitar geeks forum no less. Wow!

I have something to share, but not a lot of synth stuff, but I did this as a funky bass thing to jam drums with, and I decided to record my take yesterday and came up with guitar stuff to "finish" it up. The drums are all me in one take, and the guitars were my Ibanez RG with Fishman Modern pickups through the Synergy JMP Preamp.

I'm running Iris 2 on a Mac, Ventura. fwiw

Nicely done. I'd like to take up drums more myself. At the very least need get an e-drum around here, even if it's just for my wife. She's wants to play too. :grin

I started on an eDrum kit about 6 years ago, and traded that to my old drummer for a decent Mapex acoustic kit and love it. eDrums are better in most cases, but I have a relatively sound damped studio that is far enough from neighbors I can play that and record guitars as loud as I want. I really wish I had started playing a lot sooner. We have a kid here in town that is about 16 and he fronts a metal band and plays guitar really well. he just started playing drums in another band as well, and I am both jealous and inspired by how talented this kid is.

Something about starting young that makes the mind more receptive to new ideas and motor skills to develop. I started playing drums when I was almost 30, and over a decade later, I still haven't developed limb independence. Oh well. It's great exercise.

Anyway, this is something I wrote this morning. "Kingdom Comet - All Because Of A Poor Little Rich Boy".

Recorded with an E-II MK-I into a VHT Sig:X on the orange channel with built-in boost on that's run into Fryette PS-2 and then an Axe FXIII.
