It would not be right to close out this Season that goes to 11, without dedicating the final week the the late, great Marty Dibergi! As most of us know, this creative force (without whom Spinal Tap likely would not exist), became un-living in December of this past year. Just months after the long awaited (decades) sequel release to "This Is Spinal Tap". If you have not participated so far, post one for Marty! If you have been posting this season, post another for the great Marty Dibergi, and be sure it goes to ELEVEN!! Thanks for all you did for us and Rock & Roll Marty, you will never be forgotten!!!

Week 5 was slow, and I am one of those to blame. But in the name of Marty Dibergi, hopefully we can make this final week of his Season go to ELEVEN ;~)) Mr. nightlight has not lost the lead, maintaining said position since week one with 14 submits now for S11 ;~)) Great to see the DSC founder DrewJD82 getting on the board for Season 11 ;~)) Always a pleasure to have our founding father taking part in the mayhem! Check out the specs on Season 11 and more at this link!

For the uninitiated, please go to the "Do Something Challenge" outline to read up on what this is all about and what the general rules are. If you don't, and you f up, the label may drop you or not release your album (unless you change the artwork)!

Week 6 as mentioned is the "Marty's Song" Edition of Season 11 DSC, which means he is counting on you to put your best foot (and audio files) forward for this final week of the Season that goes to 11.

What's that, you have no idea what is going on here and you didn't read the page linked above? OK, here you go you lazy turd:

1. Make and record some music NOW (not stuff you did last month, not stuff you did in high school, NOW stuff).
2. Upload it to soundcloud, Youtube or wherever you like.
3. Put a link in the current weeks thread (this thread is Season 11 Week 1) with a tag to identify what type of music it is. Tag options are #Orig (for an original song), #Cover (for a cover song), #Jam (for a riff or lick or jam that is not a song) and #Collab (for a collaboration piece between you and another participating forum member). Don't put in a tag, be prepared to have your entry NOT counted! It ain't rocket science and it takes seconds at best.
4. Sit back and wait for the adulations to pour in (and be sure to hand out your own adulations as well to the other participants - don't be a dick).
5. When the season is over, you will get a banner under your avatar showing that you are a TGF Recording Artist and if you really step up and produce, you may get the illustrious "TGF Champion" banner!

This whole endeavor is intended to encourage members to USE THEIR GEAR AND SHARE WHAT THEY CREATE! To browse previous seasons posts, you can go to the DSC Archive ;~)) Season 11 will be 6 weeks long and it will close Mar 07, 2026 at 11:59 pm HT. Week 2 for Season 11 will end on Saturday February 07, 2026 at 11:59 pm HT. For more details on 2026 DSC scheduling, see this post!

Thanks to all the Season 11 participants, some great stuff so far! I hope this final week brings out the best in all of us, in the name and memory of the legend, Marty Dibergi.

Why not just make 10 louder?

I missed a week. I worked on a song it just fell short. I did start a new channel and a persona added Signal under load.
Instead I did this one. I wish it was better. Just put up a couple of screen shots, Stomp , Reaper and random. I used my Les Paul Classic . Beautiful guitar.

I didn't have time for much really new stuff this week, but I found a backing track I had for song ideas and just did some lead work on it so I'd have something in this week. Looks like only a few had time this week, but I enjoyed what I heard from you guys!

Wanted to lay something down this evening and feeling a bit mellow. So this is a freeform, ambient vibe thing. All improv and one take stuff.
Did some creative mixing and post effecting as well. Synth parts are using Mai Tai instrument in Studio Pro, guitar is HX Native.

Nice, reminds me of Pink Floyd.

I can picture late night driving listening to this…. Im gonna listen to again when Im driving tonight. Love that lead guitar in distance… awesome job bro.
Interesting intro , reminds of something. About the time after Led Zeppelin broke up. Might have been a Plant recording.
Very good mix, do you set the levels just below max on the final mix so stream doesn’t lower the volume?

I'm assuming you were referring to my track, as mega's quote was about mine. If not, sorry. :grin

Either way though, I general do better mixes when I mix as I'm going along putting the track together. It tends to make for a better feel too because I'm playing my parts more in context to what I'm hearing. Not that I don't work in other ways too, this just seems more intuitive and an organic approach for me. As far as setting levels... that's something I continuously try to manage and improve upon. My goal is usually to get something that's not overly hot or harsh but still at relatively modern levels. I fail in that regards sometimes, but I do cut myself some slack as I usually tend to play, mix and post these tracks within 1 sitting, 2 at most in the same day.

Everything that got posted is remarkable, but for some reason this really spoke to me even more so. So tasty.
Thank you, that means a lot!
Funny thing, when I woke up at 3:30am I was like "shoot!" I wanted to finish that track and I had left the computer and gear on so was going to go turn it off and go back to bed. But I had TGF pulled up in the browser too and saw you and Moondog had posted tracks lol. I got inspired to just finish it up no matter what. So laid down a few guitar parts and called it a day. :grin Glad I did.

I was going to write something to play guitar to, and nothing really worked, but I just kept going and figured it'd be a piano thing.

Your tunes are always so good. I love piano so much and it's all that's needed more times than not. This tune is a perfect example of that. Love the key change(s) from beginning to end. :chef
