TGF Birthday Pedal Competition - Holy Shit it's finished - pic heavy BTW

What kind of pedals do you usually build?

Hmm. It depends. Whatever I feel like usually. So far my next batch has a Tone Bender Mkiii, an original spec blues breaker, a Jordan Boss Tone and a EQD Disaster Transport because I've never built any of them before.

And btw, how generous of you! Love it!

(and now please study the Himmelstrutz Fetto circuit already, will you?)

I've never heard of the Himmelstrutz Fetto Maximus tbh. I've just been having a look and that's a really interesting circuit. I've found the schematic for the basic Fetto but getting the jfets could be a problem. I'll add it to my build list and try it on vero with the jfets I have on hand.

I have once read a review with sound examples of the Fetto Nord+, been absolutely stunned by the dynamic quality of it.
Here's the review (it's in german, but that shouldn't be an issue these days...):

Listen to the "Dyna Pick SG" example on the right (or rather listen to all of them, but that one is pretty stunning IMO).

A mate of mine tried to build the vanilla Fetto Nord (without the boost), based on a circuit on tagboardeffects (IIRC) but it didn't work for whatever reasons, no idea whether he got back to it and fixed it (been ages ago).

It sort of reminds me of a DOD 250 in the gain style, but with a bit more adjustment. I was just playing through one last night and getting similar tones to the clips from the website.

Yeah, the HX model does similar tones as well, but I don't think it's as tight and also doesn't clean up as well as the Fetto.
Also, there's a galore of mini switches inside the pedal, allowing you to tailor it perfectly for your use case (most modders leave some of them out, though).

I'm not surprised tbh. I don't think they've given the source and drain voltages for the fets on the tagboard page. Without those you'd never know if they were biased correctly compared to a stock unit.

The schematic I found does have the voltages but getting the right fets is a problem now. Through hole fets are getting expensive and lots of them are just unobtainium. You'd need to try a bunch of different ones and probably adjust the source and drain biasing resistors to get a correct sounding workalike.

I've watched a few demos and it sounds pretty cool, I'll probably have a play with it at some point.

Sure, why not? But wow was the OP ever confusing. Wouldn't one thread have sufficed?

If the entrance thread is full of discussion with multiple posts by several members then they have an unfair chance of winning over someone who only posts once. Im going to use a random number generator to pick the winning comment.

That's why there's two threads.

So you're saying I should post a bunch of times in the entry thread? ;)

Well this took a lot longer than I expected for... reasons. @spawnofthesith has been an absolute gent through the whole thing but it's finally ready. Thought I'd take some glamour shots before it heads off in the post to our lucky winner.

spawnofthesith decided he wanted a BB Pre based on the custom shop versions with midboost and clipping option. Handily AionFX does a board for this exact configuration. The only real brief finish wise was he likes psychedelic things, so I had a bit of a free hand.

I've been experimenting recently with Holographic finishes and I'm loving how they're turning out. I'll do another thread in the DIY section for the other pedal I've finished in this style for anyone who's interested in how it's done.

When the light hits it you get a ripple of greens, red, blue, purple etc. It's a little hard to photograph but looks great to the naked eye

I'll add some gut shots to the next post

Candy purple enclosure
Neutrik jacks
Gorva switch
Wima, epcos, panasonic and nichicon caps

I've had it down at my last rehearsal at gig volume to make sure there was no noise etc and it sounds killer, especially with the clipping taken out works great as a boost.

This was a fun competition, even if it did take way too long. Thanks @DrewJD82 and the other mods for letting me do this. Fingers crossed we'll do another one at our next birthday.
