New 5150 is easy to play even without boosts. Very fluid lead tones..

Are marks the same way?

Pretty sure Engls are. What other amps?
Marks are not very intuitive to dial in. But once you know what to do (the Internet helps) you definitely don't need a boost.

+1 for Engl. The Powerball II can do it all. Channel 4 is very tight even without a boost, Channel 3 is comparable to an OG 5150.

"Marsha Marsha Marsha" ...

Apart from Fryette Pitbull/Deliverance, I find pretty much any high gain amp is easy to play when you pile on enough gain.

Bogner , Freidman , Soldano
Once you get up to 4 gain stage preamps in most cases

The only amp I’ve never bonded with feel wise is my 6505+, it just dosent react to my right hand at all

You said it in the OP. The ENGL Fireball comes to mind. I play it in the Helix and I played it in RL and it was the most effortless amp I have ever played.

Most work to play with? JCM style IMO.

Digital is just not the same feel, always more compressed and forgiving with less dynamic content.

Who do we believe? Eddie or "HomespunEffects"?
I never asked anybody to believe me. Appeal to authority is a logical fallacy though. That’s just truth.

I don’t believe EVH ever needed an amp that was “easy to play”. It’s just not on topic.

You can’t just discount someone’s experience by saying it worked for <insert famous person here>. This isn’t TGP.

I know you are just trying to use what you learned in a college class, but we use appeal to authority every day, in every facet of life.

FDA tests the red berries for safety, they are certified as a safe food source and sold in grocery stores. Your neighbor ate some of those red berries and got deathly ill, and tells you not to eat them. Who do you believe?

Eddie Van Halen designs and uses an amp on stage through the final decade of his career, and he is knows to have great touch sensitivity. Some bedroom guitarist says the amp doesn't respond to his right hand technique. Who do you believe?

Appeal to authority is fundamental to how we as a society operate. It guides our decision making.

Both. The 2 statements are not mutually exclusive. Just because something worked for Eddie, it doesn't mean it will work for everyone.

For example 13s and high action worked for SRV. Most players won't like that setup.

Each player is different.

No they didn’t, he ended up on 10s by the end of a tour.

I've never really understood this to be honest. I had a Fryette Sig:X and found it very easy to play. Or more accurately, I've never played an amp where it was hard to play - if it didn't sound or feel right, then I just dialed in the wrong tone. Doesn't mean the amp is hard to play.
