Got a vintage silverface champ with the original 8" speaker. I use it for solo stuff and recording. would like a bit more bottom end.
I've hear Webber is the way to go for an 8" speaker

I tried the 68 vibro champ reissue with the celestion ten 30, and it sound awesome.
Obviously, I would have to modify the vintage champ for a 10" speaker, but is there any reason this speaker would not work with a silverface champ?

aren't the vintage amps a 4 ohm only output transformer? You won't destroy it with an 8 ohm speaker unless you are running it very high on volume knob for full sessions. But it will decrease the output (though bumping up to a 10 may negate that since you should see a sensitivity improvement).

There’s a 4ohm version of the jenson

I preferred the WGS G8C out of all the 8” speakers I’ve tried which isn’t many. It was better than the Weber Sig 8 that I previously had.

For 10” speakers, I like the Eminence GA10-SC64 (more 60s Fender) for cleans and Weber 10A125 (more in the 50s Jensen camp) for dirty sounds.

Over the alnico jenson??

OK, so I went to the Jenson site and have been listening to demos on YouTube with the new vibro champ reverb. The Speaker I like is the P10R-fen. It sound warmer and fuller to my ears than pretty much anything else.

I'm seeing it in 8ohm, but not a 4ohm
The regular P10R (which also sounds great) I see comes in 4ohm and 8ohm.

Am I missing something or does the P10R-fen not com in 4ohm? If I remember correctly, you're a tech, so figured you would know if it's something that's just been discontinued or not made.

Also, would I even notice the difference between 4ohm or 8 ohm. I don't go past around 80 decibles for open mic stuff. I usually have the volume set around 4-5. To my understanding, the 4 ohm will be louder. I'm not really looking for volume though. I want more clarity/headroom and bottom end than the stock speaker. It's the original 1968 speaker, so can't image even a cheapo warehouse speaker being an improvement

An 8 ohm speaker won’t harm anything even with the volume maxed.

Will it effect how it breaks up?
And if so, in what direction?

Also, definitely going with the Jenson over the Celestion. It's ot even close. It's a much warmer and fuller sounding speaker.

It’s just a suggestion if the OP is open to some experimentation. I happen to like it’s voicing for an 8” speaker. The Jupiter and Fat Jimmy derivatives of that speaker seem to fare well as replacements in Champs from what I’ve read.

I’ve got a Jensen P10R in a Pro Junior IV that works well for its driven sounds, but don’t know how it pairs with Blackface/Silverface amps. The P10R is a little brighter than the GA10-SC64 and 10A125 to me.

I don’t like the 10 30 Celestion either. But I do dig the Creamback. Jensen is awesome too. You’ll have less overall output and therefore headroom with an 8 ohm speaker. That’s a plus for my use case for a 5 watter at the house.

Check sensitivity on your replacement as mentioned. If higher it may be a wash.
