In the theater world we have a special rehearsal called Sitzprobe. It’s the first time the orchestra and the cast run through the music together. No staging, no choreography, no acting, just the music.
Yesterday I had one where it was a 16 piece orchestra and an ensemble of ~30 and sitting in the middle of a rehearsal room hearing everyone together in a small-ish space playing these big anthems sounded so amazing I had chills.
The performances will still be great, but it will be in a big theater with a big stage where everyone is spread out, and I’ll be down in the pit and hearing everything through IEMs. And that just can’t even compare with the awe inspiring experience of hearing it all acoustically in that small rehearsal room.
I wish everyone could experience sitting in that room hearing that music first hand in that setting. It’s something I feel very lucky to have the chance to experience and be a part of.
