You've seen the Mesa wall. Bunch of straggler cabs and an EVH.

My options for project #1:

1. Get another EVH cab and put the EV speaker in it so my eventual Mk III head will be mini stack of doom. Of course I'll remove the EVH logos. I feel like this is the cheapest option that gets me close enough to what I want.

2. Get 2 Mesa 1x12 cabs. Problem is I don't need the speakers in them because I already have a C90 in one of the EVHs. I don't need more speakers. More expensive and tbh; I am not really big on the looks of the Mesa 112s.

Sidequest:
2x12 for the Mark V. Probably something Rectifier in vertical form that fits under the Mk V.

I want to be careful about shitting on people’s favorite gear, but the sheer number of used listings and negative chatter I stumble across on the EVH 2x12 cab has pretty much sworn me off them permanently. It’s likely a speaker issue since it’s pretty hard to fuck up a wood box in 2025 but what do I know.

I’m really only interested in the following 2x12 cabs:
1. Mesa Rectifier (horizontal or vertical)
2. Orange PPC212 in black
3. Newer Marshall 1936 w/ plywood
4. Bogner 212 oversized

The EVH 212 is great form factor. Tilt legs are awesome. Speakers just suck. I want a Mesa cab for my sidequest, no doubt about it.

ngl I like my 1x12 thiele and widebody closed back 1x12 a lot more than most other cabs I've ever owned. Mesa knows how to make a killer cab

but I'm sure another evh would be fine too

FWIW I have no problem with my EVH 2x12 or the H30 speakers in it. I just rarely plug into anything besides my mesas. I haven't plugged into my 5153 head in months and months either

5153's are boring sauce x 1000 comparatively. Even if they are great amps generally speaking. The EVH is really a cheap way out cabinet wise as I'll jus pull the EVH speaker out and put the EV in place :satan

The only concern I would have with the EVH cab is they are a little smaller volume wise for a closed back cab, so there is some low frequency roll off. That could be a good thing, or bad. Since you have one, I would try the EV speaker in it to see if you like the sound.

I have a Bogner 212 oversized - I think it's a great cab!

I'd probably try to score a Thiele cab. Those were designed around the EVM, right?

I have a pair of Mesa 1x12s that are a variation on the Thiele cabs, they’re sealed back, front ported 1x12s. I have V30s in them right now, but they originally had C90s. They have been at our other guitar player’s house (where the band makes noise every week) for a while now, and they thump pretty good for what they are.

i ditched my 412 for all intents and purposes and for my amps i now have:

the mark ii combo with a fane f70 in it.

a mesa thiele, that generally lives under it with an evm.

a small 112 convertible cab with an altec 417 in it.

and a 212 diagonal vertical with an ev and an emi dp12a.

i have amps from 10 watts to 160 watts. i can use any of them for different things... like the reeves 10 and the altec for sometjing that'll do quiet clean and classic, or raging gain at speaking volume. or i can run the mesa rig to a second ss amp from the slave and into the 212 for a big broad same height rig with nothing huge to carry. or record the reeves into the thiele. or use the 212 and the big fender as a bass rig.

to be honest.. my fave though is the mkii combo thiele. its just the easiest to hear between height and open and ported chonk.

i think it, like anything, comes down to knowing what you need. i think youre overrepped on closed back :D

The vertical Recto's orientation means I wouldn't have to bend over to dial knobs. They're really nice cabs that have always been right for something, and the one I used with my Mark V sounded great with it.

"He said bend over, dial knobs."

"I'm more into the wheels than the knobs."

"There's a wheel man in every crowd, right?"

I have one of the recent Boogie 4x10s with Creambacks I like a lot; if you wanted to explore something in an unusual direction with one or more of the amps, it's pretty cool-sounding.
