Small pedal haul and living room Plexi fun

Guitar Center has blown my mind twice this week-

First I go into my regular store and go to the used section without even looking at the new stuff because it’s never worth it, the highest quality guitar is generally a PRS SE. After 5-10 mins of playing some used stuff I look up and my jaw drops as the entire wall of new guitars is 90% ‘the good shit’ and none of it is locked with those tabs. I was there to maybe grab a Boss SD-1, I ended up staying over an hour playing guitars.

I saw the Hallandale GC had a SD-1 for $50 used so I decided to hold off on buying a new one then figured I’d bring down a couple pedals that I’ve had listed for months with no biters, namely the Fortin 33 that I got used at GC for $180 last year and hated. They gave me $130 for it!!! I just wanted the thing gone and would probably have taken $90 for it.

I also brought my Fulltone ‘70 and it’s not just an internet rumor, GC will not take in any Fulltone products. They can’t even look them up in their system. (This is not permission to discuss why they don’t. Do not test me on this)

And the 3 new pedals-

Not sure why the compressor bug bit me this morning, but I figured it’d be good to start working with one before I start going after dirt pedals for sustain reasons. I need to spend more time with it, but I dig it so far. The SD-1 I knew I wanted to get after using the FM9’s SD-1 in front of the Certiatone the other day, that thing just went right into 80’s hard rock/metal world with that thing. The Foxy Tone was a bit of a surprise, but I’ve always loved that octave fuzz and not gonna lie, the packaging got me-

That thing is cool as fuck. Seems to work how I was hoping it would; I’m not the biggest fan of it’s fuzz tone by itself, I really just want that upper octave thing, but dialing the fuzz back a bit and just engaging it when you’ve got other dirt running does the trick just fine. And it looks like I borrowed it from Lady Gaga.

Decided to have a Straturday in the living room and ran the Ceriatone into the load box then into the Duncan Powerstage to power the 2x12, I can live with this for living room volume! Started fucking around with pedal order and stacking dirts-

That’s the one thing that I really do miss//love about pedals/analog gear; the interaction between them when stacking them up. You tend to forget the unexpected stuff that happens in that world when you’ve been doing everything via modeler for a while. Almost all of these sounds great stacked together, but the Vintage Modern after either the SD-1 or Tchula is such a killer fucking lead tone.

Really anxious to write some music utilizing this stuff. It’s pretty hard to beat a Strat and a Marshall.

I’ve been jonesing for a foxy. Do you like it?

Yeah man, it's cool as hell! I'll probably try another couple octave fuzzes out to see if there's something I might dig a little more as I'd love to be able to utilize the fuzz aspect of it more and the Foxxy is a little start/stop kinda fuzz where it almost glitches out. Really, I want a Fuzz Face with an octave effect on it, but this definitely works for now and I couldn't pass up the casing on this one. I don't even like sparkly shit but I found this diamond studded thing kinda comical.

It's Satch and Kenny Wayne Shepherd's use of one that made me want one-

Satch turns off the Whammy in this then steps on a Fulltone Ultimate Octave, which I have in a cart on Reverb right now and should probably buy before they hit unobtanium prices-

And KWS' use of one in the "Blue On Black" solo I always thought was cool as hell.

I need to get another SD-1! I also have never owned a real tube screamer so that may be worth checking out too.

I almost snagged one as well but figured I'd wait as I might want to just grab that Keeley No Balls Screamer or whatever it is, the Nobel and TS mixed together. I had a Joyo TS that I recently gave to someone who just started playing guitar, but I definitely feel it's a 'of course I have a TS..." pedal.

I was surprised with the SD-1, I think because of when it originated I figured it was going to be quite brittle sounding but that's not the case at all.

I really like mine 👍
The WA Foxy Bling box is a Guitar Center Limited edition.

I had to get mine last December direct from Warm Audio to go with my other two.

Good luck with the comp. USE that bland knob… it’s white to stand out for a reason.

I need to read the manual, I did the “turn the knobs and listen” thing but need more insight into it. Compression can screw with me at times, especially when playing amps that compress more the more you crank them, I need to establish a baseline to work out of so I know exactly what the pedal is doing.

The Sustain aspects certainly works, it’s the leveling I’m not too sharp on yet.
